So awhile ago in the fall I took a fall on the trampoline and injured my knee and it swelled up pretty nicely so I ended up going to the hospital and they said it could just be a sprain but they weren't sure so I got x rays and nothing showed up but I never got and mri die to the cost and thought it was a sprain. So if any of you have sprained your acl or mcl before what exactly happened? Did it swell up? I'm wondering because I want to make sure it wasn't anything worse like a partial tear.
If it was your ACL tear you would have heard a pop. An MCL and ACL sprain heal themselves with a little time off, rest, ice, and slowly working back into it. Even a grade 3 full tear of your MCL heals itself...but you know know if you did that. First time ive cried in years. Just lay off it until it hurts and you will be fine.

Was the pain really that bad? Damn, then it prob was just a sprain it's pretty good now though I have been skiing on it all season and it was fine, I was just wondering because you hear of guys skiing in the x games with no acl.
Yes the pain is really that bad. When you hear of people competing without an ACL it's because they don't want to take the time off to get it fixed. I am three weeks out of surgery for ACL and meniscus repair and it is not a fun thing. You will know the difference between a sprain and when you break your knee.
well wether it s sprained or torn doesnt really matter
you need to see a surgeon and he will test your knee
if it s stable enough then you can ski
if it s not then you need surgery.
the MRI is good but ultimately what really matters is how your knee reacts to tests.
i sprained my acl last year and every one thought it was a tear when lookin on the mri.
turns out it was just sprained and my knee is stable enough to ski without surgery
(still had to get meniscus surgery though)
So i sprained a ligament in my knee few years ago (dunno which ligament exactly) , it hurts like hell but it got better short time later... but it hurt a long time if u pushed your knee completly through... just ice it and good luck!
If you can bend and fully extend your knee, you're fine.
