Sadly this year our resort built one non rail feature and this was a 12 foot tabletop...that compared to a line consisting of a 20,30, 40, and 60 footer. After talking to some of the park crew the reason behind this was the many Jerry's and gapers sending it a wrecking themselves...and the suing. Which is shit and it ruins it for the rest of us. I've heard talk about having special park passes like places out west and I would be 100% for it if it meant the bigger features were back. Opinions/stories?
If you get hurt in that fashion and you sue, then you are a vag and everything that's wrong with America in one person.
Crystal mountain michigan got sued when somebody broke their arm so now they cant have jumps

Yeah that's just what I'm talking about. I have an idiot used-to-be friend who snowboards who thought he would be cool if he bombed the run up and sent if (horrible snowboarder to) landed to flat bad concussion. I feel no pity for him, as the jump was close a day later.
Well that explains why crystal didnt have a jumpline this year, I went there this year a few times and was super confused why there wasnt one.. people who sue for that sort of thing are the scum of the earth.

Yep. It's pretty shitty
That's whats wrong with NA in general. Such a culture of suing for anything. Sometimes people just have to evaluate themselves properly but nah, a lot of americans are like YAY FREE MONEY. I'm fairly sure there are signs everywhere saying that the park is to be used at their own discretion, i mean come on.
Most likely its not the suing they are afraid of its the lack of funds for liability insurance. Have funding for small mountains to build parks and have all the insurance is a tall order.

I feel like a seperate lift pass that includes park usage should be ok here though? Maybe it doesn't even need to cost any more, just means you have to sign some kind of form to waive liability of the mountain.
I hear what you are saying but in reality a park pass means nothing. By purchasing a regular day pass you are assuming all liability but that never stops people from trying to sue. Plus a park pass for a 15 yer old kid hold no value in court .
I've found that parks that are secluded and away from the other parts of the mountain (Keystone and Mt Snow are good examples) have less people that wander into them that don't belong there. Also, small entrances and lots of signage seem to prevent people who shouldn't be in the park from ending up in the there. But no matter what, there will always be the idiot that wrecks himself due to their own stupidity... Can't fix stupid.

That is true. But it is a measure that could be taken.

But they dont really do anything and its generally a waste. Its also really annoying when you go to a hill that has them and you have to get one. There is a reason that they havn't really caught on.

I see. Guess there's no real solution. Wish there was just a way to solve it. It's ruining park skiing for a lot of us.
I ski out of Ontario and out of the 3 public non-private resorts, 2/3 require passes. there is still idiots , no solution.
Have a friend here in UK who fucked his finger on an upturned piece of metal on a quarter pipe while inline skating. Like the thing shredded his finger. He said like he could sue, and he would win, but who the fuck is suing their local skate park.
Same for local hills, it's a dick move to try and sue the parks at breck and whistler, but the local hill is as much your hill as it is the owners.
Realistically, it's a lot of cost and effort for a small hill to build some gnarly booters and keep them in tact as well as a lot of effort on the park crew to keep a rail line in tact.
Jerrys abusing the privilege, maaan.
I used to be mad when park staff at my home mountain was strict about many things, but after skiing some parks at smaller mountains with no narrow entry zone with warning signs, I realized how flooded with inexperienced skiers and riders.

Its not the regulars that usually sue. Its the kid that snowboards twice a year and thinks he can hit a 60ft booter.
the only reason the world needs lawyers is because the world has lawyers
Tough year for crystal.. a death and they got sued, but im sure they still rake in money. To be honest im suprised it hasnt happened to my home hill, cannonsburg, where there are on average 300- 400 injuries recorded by ski patrol a year, bad ones too.
How the fuck do people even win court cases against Hills. I understand the perisher court case because that was the hills fault exclusively. However if you're injured from your own stupid being how the fuck can you sue??

at snoqualmie in washington you have to pay 5$ to get a park pass and if you're under 18 you need a signature from a legal guardian on the waiver(at 18 you get to sign your own waiver) so that would hold up nicely in court i believe. its so nice when you ride by and show your pass while a gaper mom is arguing with the pass checker that they should be let in, but they don't get in.

Yeah. It was pretty rough. I was pretty close with the guy who died. Pretty scary.
I like my park. All the big kids scare the gapers away so there are big features. However at the sister resort, it is gapers everywhere. It used to have 15 features, this season it had 5 max. I don't blame them cause both resorts are included on the same pass.
it starts with a separate pass, it ends with parks being closed like race courses
Staticit starts with a separate pass, it ends with parks being closed like race courses
True...and that could be worse. I know 8 hate when have the mountain is closed off for ducking nastar

Next they'll be segregating us to our own lift lines and lifts for parks... wait, actually this sounds like a good idea.
At my home mountain Jiminy peak you have to get a terrain park pass once a season to use the terrain parks. Its only a couple bucks and you just have to watch a safety video and sign a form saying you won't sue if you get hurt.

Nah that waiver wouldn't hold up in court at all. They are more to discourage people from suing then actually protecting them from it. The only way that it would work was if a shitty lawyer got hired to defend the person that got hurt. Go America and our lack for individual responsibility.

they had one 15' jump at the end of the season that was open for about a week. but I skied Crystal all season and there are some pretty good natural hits so I can't complain

Yeah. Still not anything compared to last years line.
My hill (liberty pa) dose not allow rental gear in the park. Unfortunately it's taken really weakly. One thing that more reosrts are starting is terrain based learning , I like it because If a kid tells the ski school instructor " lets go to the terrain park" he just point over to that thing. Unfortunately my hill still takes swarms of kids in the parks. Also a place with 2 foot jumps would be good so they dont mess with me kickers anymore!!!!
At my resort when u buy the lift ticket it says on the back that u can’t sue the resort because you know the risks or something along those lines
Doesn't mean some slimy lawyer wont ignore it and help the family sue anyway
