Thinking of getting some line pin poles but it appears that the grab tab may give you some bad skiers thumb, anyone have any experience with this.
as long as you don't crash really bad you'll be fine
It definitely gives you worse skier's thumb than a normal pole, if that's what you're asking. Not by a whole lot though, I've used the same pair this season and only gotten skiers thumb a few times. I think their function outweighs the minimal pain difference. I love em.
I've hurt my thumbs with or without the grab tab just the same amount of times. Haven't notice any differences.
i swear grab tabs don't do anything other than provide you with something to suck on on the lift ride
thats what they do for me at least
I like the idea but whenever I use my line poles the tab will get caught under the ski as I am trying to land and it leads to some scary ass landings

If you have your hand under your ski when you land, you're doing something wrong..
When you fall let go of your poles... putting your hands down while holding your poles causes skiers thumb not grab tabs
I've been using the grab tabs ever since they came out and I love them, never wanna go back.
The problem most people have with skier's thumb is the way they use their pole strap. I probably can't explain it really well over the typing but essentially you want the strap in the palm of your hands, not on top.
I don't know if that helps, maybe there's a youtube video you can look up or something.

This. It's so common to see skiers with with the strap over the bridge of your thumb and index finger. When the pointy stick get caught on something and pulls back, if the strap is like this, a terrible skiers thumb issue ensues.
The Grab Tabs are stiff enough plastic to keep you pointy sticks on your hands for 5 finger grabs but soft and bendy enough to disengage and not injure you. OR if you're still skeptical .. we're making a model of stick next year that doesn't have a grab tab and more or a traditional contoured grip .. plus it's shaped like a snake .. so that's cool. thanks. -jm

Great way to explain it^
I can assure you you will not get skiers thumb from the grab. Line said it best, flexible to not hurt you, and stiff enough to grab perfectly.
Get the poles, you will not be disappointed.

It gets caught on the bottom of my ski when I am holding the grab so when I try to release it won't let me.

I know exactly what you are talking about and I do wear my straps the right way not with it over my thumb.

I don't know how that could possibly happen unless you have the tab over your index finger or something.
kryptonicI don't know how that could possibly happen unless you have the tab over your index finger or something.
I used poles when I was just beginning park then because of coaching I ditched them. So what I think happened was due to very poor technique. I most likely would loosen my grip on the pole a good amount allowing it to spin and the tab would get caught.
Based on experience you get skiiers thumb no matter what. no better or worse severity with the grab tabs, they are pretty convinent on the pole

Just don't eat shit haha

Well I don't want to plateau my skiing progression so that probably is going to happen unfortunately because usually the way you learn stuff is by eating it or falling.

Idk if this will help at all

point made k+
grab tabs never really did anything for me i used to ride them and i took them off and prefer them off
Rotate your poles outward so that the tab points sideways, not back toward you.
I thought they were gimicky as hell when I first got a pair and figured I'd end up cutting off the tab in the first week, but as long as the tab is perpendicular with my forearm they don't bother me. (Hasn't helped my grabbing in the slightest bit though.)
I had the Pin with the grab tabs. They were a great pole and I like the simple design. They are pretty cheap as well.
The grab tabs don't actually don't do anything unless you tighten the straps a lot. Even then, there isn't a big difference compared to a conventional pole.
I took a stack and tried breaking my fall, and the grab tabs did cause a worsened skiers thumb. The pole couldn't release as the strap and tab prevented the pole to fall away normally.
So either get normal poles with no grab tab or get the pole and take off the tabs/ don't tighten the straps or don't use the straps at all
Oh yeah, don't bend them back if they bend as that's how I snapped mine.

Do you ever get skier's thumb with your current pole?
RDemDo you ever get skier's thumb with your current pole?
ive never gotten it with the times that i have used poles but usually i go with out them because my grip is really thick and i use mits so its so hard to get grabs
