Whenever I try switch 3s I end up just tail buttering off the jump and then flying ass first towards a double knuckle ejection. How do I stay level in the air? Should I just spin to the right instead of trying to open up at the lip?
Patience is virtue young grasshopper, wait longer before setting the spin.
...are the best trick ever! Lots of technical elements in there.
^john is right.... wait. Also then commit, don't let your eyes keep looking at the landing, spot your landing for your awareness but then continue and look all the way backwards you body will then follow. Suck you legs up too, a safety grab is great because it pulls your legs up and speed your spin up.
I have had trouble with them as well. I needed to wait longer to pop, like wait a lot longer. Also get some heel pressure going.

if you know how to wind up for threes, look over your shoulder backwards relaxed and wait to set and pop until you are about 5 feet before the lip or halfway up the jump depending on the size. sw 3s dont take much to actually bringing them around but if you catch your tips it makes the rotation a lot slower
sw 3s are easier and more fun than normal 3s IMO. Just have to get comfortable with how to throw em

totally agree. just get a good amount of air and be patient on the takeoff. Once your get the first 180, air that shit out and whip around the last 180 at the last possible second for extra steez
yeah what everyone else said just try to wait to spin until almost all of your ski is off the lip of the jump. They are a blast once you get them.
go off a big not too lippy jump than just try a switch 1 to a 180.

At first I was like "no way, I totally agree with you", but then I was like "oh its you..."
Id rather sw3 a jump any day than normal 3. Once you get sw3s sw5s arnt much harder.
i also have trouble with them i get the whole trick but at the first 180 i just start rolling down the windows. make sur you have 180s and switch 180s on lock so taking off switch and landing switch feels more comfortable
do some switch 180 and once you get these comfortably, set it a little bit more, pop and float it around to a 3
