I'm heading to Alagna, Italy on tuesday and there is 224cm (88 inches) on forecast in the next 3 days and well.. im stoked as hell! But... is it too much? I'm just wondering if you fall on this snow, could you actually "drown" in the snow? ofc i have my buddies with me but still. Thoughts?
thatparkskiierBring pow specific skis.
or just mount 2 snowboards with bindings
Yes, there is such a thing as too deep of pow. if you have ever seen the USC ski team videos on YouTube (I would recommend watching them) in one video one of their members almost died in 8 feet of fresh pow. He hucked a cliff and literally just disappeared into the snow. Scary shit man.

Shit is soooo fucking terrifying.
so its ment to snow that much and be bluebird afterwards and your worried? think yourself lucky
Just got back from there, pow was super, so light and dry. If you like pillows take the two lifts from gressoney la trinite. Best lift accessed pillows in the alps /claim. hit me up if you have any questions.

Don't ski anything technical, especially cliffs/pillows after the storm when all the snow has fallen (i.e. the video posted by @powerbong2000, that could easily happen to you with the blower pow Italy gets). Early in the storm when less snow has fallen is the time to ski the technical terrain. GET A FUCKING GOPRO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE ALREADY.

gotcha. will post vids when i return
As long as you can get there, its never deep enough.
And fuck you

IDK if youve ever been in legit deep snow, but there are a lot of downsides to it.
Id much rather have thigh deep snow(3ft) than belly button or especially armpit deep.

yes this is the video I was referring to
Definitely, too much snow and the steep stuff is too prone to avalanches and the safer stuff isn't steep enough to get any speed up
Alagna this morning. It has snowed for a day and 3 more to go. oh boy
ShepuxThat's about how much my mountain gets a season
Damn. I can measure Wisconsin's snow total with my dick. In other words...there isn't much snow.

I live near Whitewater, 2 years ago we received 130cm over 6 days. It was epic, seeing was not a problem; breathing was!
Depends how steep it is. At my local hill we once got so much snow you couldn't get any speed because none of the runs are that steep. You would get half way down and just get stuck.
When Mammoth originally opened decades ago people said it wouldn't work because they got too much snow.

Oh the irony now
Holy shit i want to move there. Thats alot of snow... good luck is all i can say! get pitted dude

my dad told me a lift line story one time about a guy who actually wore a snorkel that could extend to like 3 feet above his head solely for hucking cliffs when there was a shit ton of snow
Holy fuck that looks awesome, stay safe and have a lot of fun!
And post a shit ton of videos
Yesterday I hiked a not so steep trail off ragged mountain (east coast hardcore real stuff) with mad rocker park skis. I started in the steepest part and only went about 30 feet in waist deep blower and had go waddle downhill ~300 yards to the trail. Shittiest run I've ever had in my life. so yes, you can have too much pow (atleast for east coast)

Thats the worst. I took my park skis to steamy last year and left the pow skis at home. Every cliff I hucked my skis sank and I was double ejecting everywhere! You know those double ejects where you do a couple front flips, yeah...
Just make sure you have a snorkel, and tie some powder cords to your skis. It may look stupid, but digging through 88 inches of snow for your skis will not be fun.
Make sure you have a friend with you incase you get buried in snow, or fall into a tree well.
that is as much snow an Minneapolis has gotten in the past two years, last year was a really snowy year too. Currently Minneapolis is sitting on a half inch of snow when we usually have 1-2 feet on the ground by now. Count your blessings east coasters and Italians.
Why get a snorkel when you could have an avalung. I feel like having three feet of pvc pipe attached to your head would be fucking annoying not to mention completely impractical.
