Any of you guys GC's ? I am taking my exam January 12th and i am pretty stoked. My hourly wage will triple and ill be my own boss. I've got some ideas on the services i will offer under my general B. I plan on upgrading license classifications over the next few years. So any one on NS have a license or have anything motivating to say? cheers
Nah but a few of my friends parents are contractors and have their own business and theyre loaded.
My brother is a general contractor. He flips houses.
Once you get some money start your own business and hire a few guys to work for you.
1.Sub out everything
2.Sit back and take a cut
3.?????
4.Profit
I worked for one for a while and it was a pretty sweet job. easy money when youre just helping out.
I am a project manager for a smaller GC, we do commercial interior build outs, building maintenance, and some residential jobs. Roughly 5.5mil a year in work. Commercial is where its at - when people aren't spending their own money they are more likely to hand it out, but obviously there are insurance and license requirements that make it more challenging to get into big buildings.
My advice to you:
1. Keep your client happy
2. Keep your job sites as clean as humanly possible.
3. Build a good relationship with your subs. Don't be the contractor that says "you get paid when I get paid." People will go out of their way if they know they'll get paid quick
4. Keep your job sites as clean as humanly possible.
5. Get ready for long, stressful days.
