Midnight to noon, who the fuck planned that shift, that sounds awful. Why wouldn't they do something like 6 to 6 instead

Is this a one-time shift or is this gonna be a regular one? And what's your job?
Books, sudoku, games on the phone, homework, etc. are KEY for the grave shift. There would be no way to survive the grave without those haha.
I started a new job in September at the U of U hospital and I'm picking up a grave shift schedule.
Starting January I'll be working Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night graves. Sounds kind of rough with my friends and the social scene but I'll have 36 hours guaranteed each week, with an automatic $2/hr increase for working grave and another $2/hr for working weekends on friday and saturday. Plus I have a set schedule so my body can get into a better sleeping pattern, the people who work grave regularly at my job are homies, and I have 4 straight days off to ski, hang with the gf, and chill.
I'm honestly really stoked for it haha.
Working in Client Services for a company called Givex. They centralized their CS team so that it is all based out of Toronto. Which means graveyard shifts to accommodate the different time zones. Its kinda shitty but at the same time a really good opportunity for an 18 yr old kid..
Oh how I do not miss working stupid hours like that. I work for a shipping company so of courae right before Chtistmas gets atupid busy. Had to work a Sunday night 6:30 pm to 6:30 Am shift welllllll Monday is now a waste. Your sleep schedule is going to be all kinds of retarded
For a few months I year I usually end up on nights working 13 hr shifts. I used to try and change my sleep schedule by staying up late a few nights before, but that never worked that well, now I don't change anything before I start just treat the first shift like a long night of drinking haha, red bull can help. The best thing that helps me is keeping my room pitch black so I can sleep during the day.
Crushing a few beers on my deck in the AM is kinda fun though
I worked noon to 3am all summer, and frequently would go till six or 7am. Caffeine pills, lots of them.
worked night shift at the hospital for a few years. Just make sure you have a dark quiet place to sleep when you get home. I used to wake up at 7pm, then slug beers until midnight and it fixed my internal clock when needed lol
As a firefighter I worked a 2-2-4 shift pattern for 6 years which was 2 days (9am to 7pm), 2 nights, (7pm to 9am) then 4 days off.
I loved working nights because I was either busy with calls or sleeping! But trying to establish a regular sleeping pattern and resting sufficiently between night shifts was tough. Just do your best to stay busy and if you want to sleep in the day but find you can't go to the gym until you're close to falling alseep on the treadmill!
I've been away from it for 2 years now and I'd hate to go back to working nights. Early days are the way forwards. Currently I work 7am to 2pm Mon-Fri and its bliss!

A 6-6 shift is much worse then a 12-12 shift. There is a reason most places do a 12-12 shift, because it is much better and easier for the employee.
I've worked a few 6p - 6a s and they suck unless you stay busy
Caffeine can be your friend but shouldn't rely on it
Try to gradually changr your sleep cycle to be ready
I worked a few nights in lift ops for events and such.
Coffee and water are your friends.
Whenever I have to do a night shift week I spend the night before getting high and staying up as late as possible, hopefully go to bed at like 7am next morning, wake up late as possible, boom ready to go.
I'm getting off a grave right now. I bring a laptop with an external hard drive with a shit ton of movies/shows.
Drink caffeine only in the early stages of your shift. Water throughout. I work alone, so I workout when I get drowsy. I noticed if you're just gonna watch stuff to kill time- comedy > everything.
