The other day I got cut off/snaked an incalculable amount of times. Eventually I just said fuck it and decided that I'm going to ride like no one is there (incredibly ignorant I know). I scared the shit out of countless gapers. Normally I would ski down and tell them to watch were they ski, not stand in the landing. But I was so fucking fed up by the end of the day. So NS, how do you deal with a crowd of gapers.
I think if you pour holy water on them they melt
They have just as much right to be there as you do, contrary to many peoples belief one here that tall tees and oversized clothing make you a partial owner of the mountain. Just avoid them to your best ability and stop giving park skiers a bad rep among the skiing community.

Do they have the right to be in the park? Yes. Do they have the right to cut people off, stand on the landing of jumps, and make conditions extremely dangerous? Fuck no.

How about instead of being a dick, give them some information on park etiquette. Some people legitimately don't know any better and you getting pissed off at them and cutting them off definitely isn't going to improve the situation.

came here to say that

Like I said in the beginning I usually do this, but I was just so fed up at the end of the weekend. And there were way too many people as well.
if they are beginner park gapers, give them trick tips and park etiquette. they'll get stoked when you do something.
if they are a family of 6 from texas, well, you're shit out of luck.
If people are coming into the park they should learn the ways and rules before they come whipping in. But usually for the first time i give them advice and just tell they will get hurt if they arnt careful. But if they are a dick back or keep doing it then all bets are off
Last season, I wasn't exactly a gaper (could hit most rails in the park) but I had no clue when it came to park etiquette. I usually didn't stop at features so I never really ran into problems but I never thought of not doing the gaper things described. I never really learned about traffic flow in the park until one day where I fell on a downrail. I got up and just stood in the landing until a snowboarder hit it and just missed me but broke my pole. I immediately felt guilty and stupid for standing there even though he wrecked my pole.
The key thing to this story is that most ppl won't understand unless they are involved in an incident. For me, I understood to not get in ppl's way but it wasn't ever on my mind when I rode.
Spark notes:Everyone (almost) will say they sudnt do gaper things when asked but most people don't consciously think about it and for many, they won't ever unless they get involved in an incident. So if they don't immediately blame you in an incident, be nice, inform them of proper behaviors, and help them out because they probably will already be conscious of traffic in the future as you address them.

Bro, you must be so chill and have lots of chill friends bro.
On a serious note, you sound like a complete asshat, fuck yourself.
If they're at the base of a rail or jump that's just a bonus tap feature

Seriously, people just don't get it. And why are they in large parks with 50 foot booters. If you just started skiing, why go into expert park features. Stop and go to the baby park, and think about what you do before you do it, e.i. called common sense.
I just go ski terrain that they're scared of.

It's always amusing when people on the lift yell things like 'Watch out! There's a cliff below you!' I just passed through several gates and past warning signs saying 'DANGER CLIFF AREA'. Of course there's a cliff below me. Why else would I be here?

It's not a hard concept at all to understand the problem is that they never really think about it while skiing. If you came up and asked why are you standing here? Do you think that standing near a feature in such a way can pose a danger to you and park riders that hit the feature that can't see you?, they would immediately feel really stupid. They will be thinking why wasn't i thinking of that? Not how did I not know standing near designated places where ppl are flying through the air increases the chance of getting in a collision? The problem is that they aren't thinking of how their actions are disrupting the flow and traffic of the park and safety of everyone.
Gapers should be given no more thought than a mogul or a tree they are obstacles and scenery and nothing else to you. Its weird skiing on an empty hill anyways.
The only humans for which you should even knowledge their existance are lifties, ski patrol, other good skiiers you interact with, and friendly folks on the lift. Noone else should be paid any attention this includes all forms of awful skiiers and snowboarders again they are not part of your mountain community they are merely impediments like a rock or a tree or a mogul however they are people too and none deserve their day impacted by you initiating any crap ski past and never see them again.

As a lifty, i thankyou :)
I've found suprise assassination is a great way to deal with gapers standing in the landing

This is actually one of the best posts ive ever seen on NS. Seriously.
If gapers really bother you that much, just go ski in the woods. Isn't that obvious?
I just carry a whip with me, keep em in line. lil bastards
It's early season... This should be expected.

good lord, very enjoyable story saga kitty
Maybe give them the title of this video. "Mt Bachelor Parks Sun. March 4th 2012 Don't Be an A**"
I usually just tell um to move, as respectfully as I can possibly be and hopefully the leader of their tribe won't spear me down. I shit you not, one time a couple of my friends and I were hitting the XL line at SP and a group of them led by a middle aged fuck were lined up across the landing of the jump, I nearly sliced one of their heads off, I apologized and asked them to move to the side and farther down and the old guy just argued with me as he was nearly taken out by my buddy just landing. It was ridiculous
Push them off the lifts all the time. Gotta control the population

Did you rode 5 over them?
Coming from Hyland Hills which has probably the highest concentration of beginner skiers around I feel your pain, but you just gotta have a good attitude. From experience letting 'em know what's up in a nice way eventually leads to a lot more aware riders in the park, and if you are a shredder they'll respect what you have to say.
Most get it the first time you talk to them. The problem lies in parents who let kids dink around on jump takeoffs, landings, etc and stupid kids who fall on the takeoff and what not.
Eh, a lot of the time they don't know any better, but I will agree that a lot of this shit is common sense. Especially the "being in the landings" side of things. Granted, it is your job to make sure the feature you're hitting is clear, but it is also the gapers job to be visible to other riders.
if they're cool, i'll just be nice and tell them to move or what they should do instead. If they're dicks, though, i really don't have any issue telling some dipshit gaper to move his retarded ass.
Two weeks ago i got cut off by a Gaper and Dislocated my hip. After I did that he would't even help me get to the lodge.

Our emblems are very similar. As your senior, I advise you to switch it immediately in order to avoid pee entering your butt from my body.

That's largely because you didn't dislocate your hip

Thank you.
I also think we should make a point to only refer to adolescents and adults who suck as gapers.
I prefer the term 'Mountain Gnomes' for little people who are still learning to ski.
i normally approach them nicely and say that they are either in a dangerous place or are gettign in the way. If they are cool, then its over, but if they are stubborn, i always bring up the fact that on the sign in front of the park it says "freestyle skills required" and that the etiquette is posted and that they have to follow it.
moral of the story, don't start with the dick attitude, but sometimes you need it.

This. You have no idea how much of an impact you could have from simply telling them what they're doing wrong, no matter how idiotic it is.
