Well the legal limit there is only half of that in America so if he was just over I say no biggie.
People able to get a DWI at .04 seems crazy to me.

It should be that way in America. Mandatory jail sentence and multiple offenders get life in prison.
That would keep the drunks off the street.

Yeah yeah. Why not go after the people eating, putting on makeup etc first. Somebody driving that's at .04 is really not my concern unless they're a shitty driver. I'm much more terrified of the people texting while driving (Because we derped and made talking on the phone illegal) doing their makeup, eating, or just generally being horrible drivers because we let anyone pass.
All I'm saying is if you want to clean up the roads at least be fucking consistent. All the push to lower the legal limit and kill anyone that drives over it yet no real push for more difficult road tests or anything else to keep the roads safe.
Something in place where instead of cops going after speeding tickets as a weak cash grab they actually go after dangerous drivers. People driving without headlights in shit weather, people swerving in and out of lanes unaware what they're doing or what speed they're going(drunk or not) etc. There should be a limit on these tickets and you should lose your license, have to take the test again, and the test should actually require people to operate a car somewhat decent.
I'm not saying I want the roads to be dangerous, but I just get tired of all everyone saying stuff like that but not giving a fuck about anything else. Many times it's the other shit that's far more dangerous.
I see people driving without headlights all the time in rain snow whatever. People legitimately think the only reason they have headlights is to see, and if they can see they should use them. People who drive with a 20mph range or worse and if you asked them would tell you they were driving the same speed the whole time. Shit like that.
I'm tired and hungry and have no food so that's probably what this is about but I really do feel that way.

The legal alcohol limit in New Zealand is actually 0.08, same as the US. This guy was breath tested at 0.0826 though.
He still got fined and disqualified from driving, just not actually convicted of an offence so it's not on his record.
Wait in the states you are allowed to text but not call? Wtf??
(Both are illegal in Aus and NZ too from memory)

No, other way around

Nah but as soon as they made that law people started texying instead because its way easirr to get away with. Also you cant have a phone in your hands and talk on in, but you could have a hands free phone and a cheeseburger in one hand which is more difficult to drive with.
People go to thier love elected political leaders and say this happened or im a herp derper so lets make a bunch of laws.
Every rest stop on the highways in ny now says "text stop" instead. In somebodies head that actually seemed sensible. Idk.
As far as legal limit in nz thats what eveyone i talked to said. Maybe everyonr just got messed up in the conversions of how they measure it to here idk. I think aus is low as well.
Anyone who texts and drives is a complete idiot who deserves to get into a terrible car crash. I love calling people out when I'm commuting by bike in rush hour because a bike is much more maneuverable and agile than a car.
My friend got a dwi for sitting in a parked turned off car, now he has an ankle monitor and can't be a marine.

Yeah shit's ridiculous. You're better off just driving home sometimes. Unless you think enough to get in the passenger seat and hide your keys. Definitely don't use the heat because if you try not to freeze you're clearly driving and will get a dwi. The bike dwi laws are fucked as well. You take a bike to the bar instead of a car yet can get in trouble for trying to be safe? lol.
I don't think people think when they make laws that's why we have millions of them and plenty of stupid ones that will never go away.

Someone I know recently got hit by a texter on the freeway, traffic jam and the moron didn't see that the traffic stopped, they were still going 55. Everyone was okay. The reason texting is dangerous is not taking eyes off the road but because it takes someone's focus off driving.
Remember when we wouldn't trust someone unless they had a DUI? Those were the days...
Seriously though, Drinking and driving is dangerous, but so is texting and driving, applying makeup and driving, getting road head and driving, and a host of other things people do on a daily basis. Society needs to come to terms on how it handles DWD (driving while distracted) and not just base it on how much alc people have had. FWIW, I've seen a guy who blew a .14 and could have driven better than most.
But don't get a DUI - it will fuck your life. Which is a problem, we, as a scociety tend to view DUI as something to avoid due to the social and legal consequences, not because it is wrong.

So you're saying that texting the reason texting is dangerous is taking your focus off driving yet "Anyone who texts and drives is a complete idiot who deserves to get into a terrible car crash".
Fuck off. Texting or anything else isn't the problem as much as people not making driving the number 1 priority. What you're in a car driving should be number 1. You can talk on the phone, change the cds, text, eat a fucking cheeseburger or whatever as long as driving is number 1.

Basically this. Which is weird.
Also as far as thread I just wanted to argue for the sake of arguing but I still think it's a semi almost kind of valid point.
People need to drive less shitty. Honestly scares me to think that I used to ride my bike 4 miles each way on a narrow shoulder everyday all summer and many days in the spring and fall as well. Oh to be naive again.
I'd rather see people at .04 BAC on the road than Asians.

I agree with the first sentence 100% but it's impossible for people to focus completely on driving while doing something else. If anything, calculated risk. Empty highway, fine. But if you put anyone at risk with your dangerous driving, get out of the car.

You seem to have pretty unrealistic expectations.

Its actually 0.08. Its about to get changed to 0.05 though in a couple of weeks
