Anyone read the book on Chris Kyles life? It is a movie now with Bradley Cooper. Should be interesting.
This thread is hilarious. The film completely glorifies war, and paints the destruction of Iraq as some noble crusade by america against the evil that is Islam. It was/is far more complex than that, and not a black-and-white case of good vs evil.
Also not to mention that the film plays the leading character as some brave american superhero fighting for a just cause, when in reality chris kyle is a sadistic, racist asshole who openly admitted to enjoying killing human beings.
What is it with americas fetish for war and the constant need to distort history in its favour?
Bring on the downvotes, flag-waving rednecks
I wish it had portrayed Chris Kyle as a bit more of a badass. Not that he isnt a badass in this flick, but it makes it seem like Chris Kyle was an absolute saint who never did anything a little questionable in the war. Still a good movie though.

Chris Kyle: I'm not a redneck, I'm from Texas.
Taya: What's the difference?
Chris Kyle: We ride horses and they ride their cousins.
why can't there be a movie where Al Queda wins?
#racism
This looked REALLY good, but I heard it was pretty rough. I've always been a HUGE war related movie fan but from who I heard it from makes me a little skeptical.
.ttelrab.Such a good and powerful movie. All the people that are saying that it glorifies war, demonizes Iraqis, etc apparently interpreted the movie very wrong. First, it shows how war made Chris Kyle a completely different person when he got home, with all of the PTSD stuff he goes through. Also, it doesn't "demonize Iraqis" whatsoever. Yeah, it demonizes the Taliban, but you'd have to be pretty dumb to think that was representing all Iraqi citizens.
"Taliban"

Dude, all of your posts recently are complete and utter shit, take a break...
Going to see the movie tonight finallllly! RIP hajis
It's gonna be hard to beat lone survivor, saw that 3 times in theaters
I thought this movie was both good and haunting at the same time. I think too many people saw and or see what Chris Kyle did as a horrible thing. Now I should say that I am not all for the war in Iraq, or Afghanistan but am by no means a "hater" of the American military. In his mind he could justify killing with the fact that he was saving lives of others. Who are we to argue with that logic? I think we should all stop calling him a blood hungry sadist, bent on murdering hundreds of people. He had a job, and he did it well. Did he truly enjoy killing? Or did he desensitize himself to it, because he was hell bent on saving other Americans? After all he was affected greatly by the horrors experienced in battle, both what he saw happen and what he inflicted. I think this movie should be seen as something to think about, not seen as propaganda. To think more about what soldiers go through, even the most badass, scared of nothing guys. To think about what innocent civilians in other countries go through. Living in fear of both Taliban and of US Troops. It didn't make me want to go kill someone. I couldn't imagine personally pulling the trigger with another human being on the other end. Even in a wartime circumstance it would be difficult. It doesn't make me hate middle eastern people. I hate that there are people out there bent on killing others for an ideal. But sadly that has happened throughout history by many religions so I doubt it will end soon.
The only part of the movie that I did have a slight issue with was that he left his family for so long. I understand that he had a sense of duty and he has my utmost respect for serving this country. But my personal feelings are that family comes before country. Don't get me wrong, I love my country and am blessed to have the opportunities that living here brings, but I value my family over my country. I can live anywhere if I have my family.
I really did not like it that much, i’ll give it a 7/10. I thought bradley Cooper was excellent in it. However, the film definitely sensationalized and falsified certain aspects of Chis Kyle's book so as to embellish the emotional impact of war.
I found it jingoistic to an extent and it never once depicted Chris Kyle as a man addicted to killing. Hell, he even boasted about his kills, and thought that Iraqi people were savages. He's been quoted saying, "ill kill anyone who wears a turban."
In his book he claimed to kill 30 looters during Hurricane Katrina. However, he’s a proven liar. But...just the fact that he pretended to kill civilians after the hurricane down in New Orleans, doesn't speak highly of this man.
The movies plot was disjointed, the acting excluding Bradley Cooper was sub par, especially from the wife. The cinematography was average, framing was inconsistent, and the CGI was absolutely appalling and looked to be a video game at times.
The wartime/back at home flip-flop approach felt sort of modular and clunky and at times confusing. Also, the respites were quite redundant with Chris Kyle's wife and at times inauthentic, especially during a seemingly pivotal scene in the movie where a stage baby was used.
I mean, you know Kyle might have been and probably was a great soldier but a bad guy or a mediocre guy doing a difficult job irresponsibly or a complicated guy in a unjust war who convinced himself he loved killing to cope with an impossible situation, or a straight-up murderer exploiting an oppressive system that also employs lots of well-intnetioned, often distressed, non-murderers to carry out reprehensible things over which they have no control.

Barefootin_Fiendi was going to, but then I realized you're from the most irrelevant country on the planet.
This is another thing. Why is america so obsessed with trying to look superior all the time?
For the record, my irrelevant little dot of a country is one of the most progressive, least corrupt nations in the world, since you obviously want to turn this into a country vs country argument like you lot always do. If that means we're irrelevant, then so be it. I think your priorities and standards must be pretty fucking backwards, though.
Here's some advice: having the biggest military in the world doesn't make you #1, or better than anyone else (shock!). Only uncultured, narrow-minded, cowardly hillbillies like frenchy think so. You dont want to be like frenchy, do you?
Also, point proven. Downvote me, but don't refute what I say

cigIt was ok. I didnt like how he kept calling his wife mid battle. Although I didnt read the book I highly doubt that happened. It was honestly more of an action movie than a than a good war movie. Just my two cents
In the book he calls his wife quite often "mid-battle". I put the quotes around it because in the book he usually called her during downtime while he was sitting on watch when nothing was happening.
Like I said before the movie stretches things a little bit (In the book when the phone dropped to the ground and Taya heard the whole battle, he was doing overwatch and an RPG went off behind him and shit got crazy after that.)
As a veteran, this movie is propaganda. It glorifies the fuck out of war. And not to mention the actual dude was lying about his stories. If this movie makes you want to join the military then you are getting got... just like I did.
The people who are bashing on Kyle need to seriously STFU. You've never fought in a god damn war before, your all oblivious to the fact that fighting in a war exerts an unimaginable amount pressure/stress on you. That's why you hear about all these fucked up things that have happen in war. Contrary to your belief, but fucked up shit has happened in every single war fought through out the history of mankind, it's not just in the wars America is involved in. There is no humane or moral way to fight a war so stop acting like there is. Making a wrong decision in battle is something that happens all the time in war and its also something that has nothing to do with racism or bigotry. It's all instinct, aka a natural human behavior, and in a war it's more prevalent than ever because it's what you have to use if you expect to survive.
This movie really hits home for me so it really pisses me off when some dumb fuck behind a keyboard tries to label American vets as a bunch of trigger happy red neck murderer's. My long time girl friends brother, who was also a brother to me, just served on his first tour in Afghanistan as an army sniper last year. In August, two month's after his deployment ended, he committed suicide.
I noticed something was different about him after he got home from his tour. He wasn't the same happy-go-lucky kid that enjoyed to joke around and play pranks on people like he was before he left. I just figured that he'd toughened up because of his experience in the military. I thought that he'd simply grown from a kid into a man, I never thought that his change in behavior was actually because he was suffering from PTSD. I was aware of the fact that there are a lot of vets coming back from war with PTSD. However I never once thought that this problem with PTSD would directly effect me. After he died my girl friends family and I found out that he won a bunch on medals over there and that he saved the lives of his fellow soldiers on a couple occasions. I don't know any of the details or what happened, but according to his mom he had to kill a bunch of people in order to save his fellow soldiers lives. They all attended his funeral and even though non of them talked about what he did, you could just tell by the looks in their faces that he did something very important for them.
I can tell you first hand that it is very easy to convince yourself that your loved ones who go into war will return in one piece and will be mentally fine. Sadly there has been a lot of families here in America that have figured out the hard way that this is not the case. In reality, 1 out of 4 Iraqi War and Afghani War vets that return home end up killing themselves. That's how I know that our vets aren't savage murderer's, because if they were than we wouldn't be seeing them taking their own lives every day. What you don't understand is that there are a lot of vets that hate killing, so much so that they kill themselves to escape it. My little brother was an innocent 17 year old boy when he went off to war and it sucks that he died because of what he had to go through to survive. So before you criticize american vets next time, just let that thought float around in your mind. If you have even a little bit of a soul than you'll realize that you sound like a huge fucking douche bag.

Don't even bother. His country's main export is fish and dairy and heavily rely on the US for imports. Also, Bill Gates could single-handedly buy half of New Zealand right now. Calling someone who lives in the US a hillbilly is an outrageous comment when the US is significantly more developed than New Zealand is.

Oh yeah and it is not a bad opinion for a veteran. A lot of the people i've seen saying fuck that glorifying war bullshit have been veterans (unlike you talking out of your ass). And yes I joined the navy and volunteered for submarines. And no it is not an accurate story of his life. The guy was a bullshitter. And your hoo-yah bullshit and you do not know the first thing about the military. It is quite comical to say the least...
And people may think you're a hill billy because you're not very bright, fly a confederate flag in Connecticut and listen to Pop music (mainstream country). You're a wannabe redneck at best tbh.

I know they pay for school, that's what I said earlier... You probably went just to get school paid for, but some, like Chris Kyle, join for more than that, because they love their country. Yes, he is an American hero.... Do you know how many soldiers and other innocent civilians he has saved? A ton.

Ok man I don't want to get in another pissing match with ya. It is funny though how mad ya get.. I bet that if we chilled in person we'd have a lot more in common than ya think. All I want people who think he is a hero to take a step back and answer what are we fighting for? How many innocent civilians have we murdered? Is he really fighting for freedom? Don't blame the soldiers if you disagree with a war. It wasn't Chris Kyle's decision to start the war in Iraq, he was just doing his job. He loved this country and joined the military to protect it and it's citizens. Getting pissed at soldiers because you disagree with the war they are involved in is such a stupid thing to do. Be angry at the politicians if you don't like it, but Chris Kyle just went over there to follow his orders and make sure as many Americans came back home as possible.

Also, I saw Bradley Cooper at a grocery store in Los Angeles a couple weeks back. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"
I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I don't remember where, but I have seen this exact story word for word before on the internet. I really can't remember where I read it then someone commented disproving it by saying he was currently in a different country. I don't think I am imagining this but I am like 99% certain I had already read this story.
.frenchyWow what a chode.... Didn't know he was like that, BUT..... You shouldn't let his attitude affect how you feel about the movie, Clint put together a really good movie and I thought Bradley Cooper did an amazing job acting. Too bad he's a fuck in private I guess
It was a good movie, far from great. The plot was very disjointed and the movie falsified aspects of Chris Kyle’s book. If you read his book and do a tad bit of research you would know that Chris Kyle was a very shady guy.
kshaughnDon't blame the soldiers if you disagree with a war.
I am not blaming the soldiers... Actually I feel for them because they fell for the game. The game consist of convincing teenagers that war is great and glorious. Whether that is done with commercials or a recruiter giving out M&Ms at a high school. Or the convincing is done by making it unamerican to talk negativity about war. I know this because I fell for this game. This movie is not going to convince everyone to join the military but, any simple minded person who is on the fence about joining just got the boost they needed.
Davinso what did you serve as? MP or something?
na an Electrical Technician on a Submarine
WoldsWorldThe people who are bashing on Kyle need to seriously STFU.
A+, sorry for your loss.
JOP177Just saw it - what a powerful movie. Never been in a full theater that empties without a single person saying a word.
Haven't seen it yet but a bunch of friends have. They say its an extremely powerful movie. The mood leaving it is essentially leaving his funeral.

Spending too much money on a movie that makes you feel like a funeral sounds no fun to me... I'll take titties and laughs please

1. You saying it was a good movie is an opinion.... So just stop.
2. I know a lot about the guy and have for a couple years, I bet you're a shady guy as well. I'd be happy to be 1/2 the man that he was.

My heroes save lives, not end them.
