What width do you think is absolutely necessary?
At what point does extra width just make it easier and negate skill?
I'm talking decent pow days and hucking 15-20ft+

180 underfoot cushion for all your pushin.
Liberty BFFs, or this set that Grace skis made. Both of those were over 200 underfoot.
120-125 is the sweet spot IMO. (specifically 122)
Of course it also depends on the shape of the entire ski, not just whats underfoot. All my favorite powder skis are in that range though. JJ, New life, Rocker 2, chetlers, etc.
Some here may remember when pow skis were all goin really wide. It was pollard if remember correctly who first said there was a limit. Going wider an wider meant that te surface area was getting so big that for bc jumps the impact was becoming to big. The increased float wa actually having a negative effect on the rider in landings. That is partly the reason you see most pow skis these days in the 120 range and there are very few 130+.
117 master race.
>what width is necessary for hucking 15-20 foot
You can do that on a 80mm carving ski if you want, it's not 'necessary' to have a wide ski. But it's not just about making it easier, it's about making it smoother and more enjoyable, and it is closer to 'necessary' with bigger hucks.
My daily drivers are 117, my pow skis are 131, I am very comfortable on both in gnarly gnar. My 117s are maneuverable enough to ski chutes with mandatory straightlines and mandatory turns with only a few centimeters room for error. They are also big enough for big hucks. Perfect skis for everything in my opinion.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.
I'm currently riding 83's for teaching and then the 2013 Shreditor's for free ski days (102's)... Have been sinking a bit when hitting some bigger stuff... Especially with the flex of the shreditor's.
Looking to add a fat ski to the quiver for the deep days and bigger natural features... Looks like I'll be going up to 115-122 by sounds of it.
