Might be a repost, but the editing in the Sherpas video and this one below is insane, and I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to do it. Let me know if you have any theories or actually know the process.
I have a theory that they go there in the summer and film then when they go back in the winter they film the skiing. In after effects they "paint" the snow over the grass and once the skier is there then its all winter.

Thats probably the way
I'm just befuddled as to how they get the exact, precise frame right when they go back.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering.. I kinda understand how it would be edited, but it seems like it would be hard to frame the shot exactly the same.

i mean could they crop the frame to get it the same?
Sherpa does a lot of theirs by putting the camera mount on a tree (or some stationary object) in the summer and getting the first shot. Then they leave the mount on and take the camera back during the winter and get the second shot. The editing is pretty start straight forward.

Just shot that trail with Hopkins not too long ago... /claim

They either did it this way with the camera mounted, or they just lined them up in post. It wouldn't be too difficult to do in post as long as the shots are fairly close. I'm sure they would have brought reference as well had they done it that way. Sherpas did this effect in All I Can in 2011 as well, very cool and fairly straight forward effect.
