Im going to Mammoth Mountain on the next winter and I wondered whats the easiest and cheapest way to get from Oakland to Mammoth? Any tips?
Alaska Airlines used to do flights there for like 79$ or something from Oakland to Mammoth airport. Was like 200$ round trip or something, but fuel was also a lot cheaper in 2010.
Unfortunately, the cheapest and easiest way is to just sack up and drive from Oakland to Southlake, and then down Dagget pass to 395.
...it's only like 5.5-6 hours (actually shorter than coming from say, Santa Monica - especially what with dealing with the traffic), but you have to pass by like 10 other very solid ski areas to get there. I used to live in Oakland, and made the drive on occasion during the spring. It's really not too bad, just get some tunes and a few buddies to pitch in on fuel.
If you don't have a car, take amtrak to Reno, then take the bus down to Mammoth. It would probably take like 8 or 9 hours, though...

Well that isn't fuckin worth it
I remember reading somewhere that if you book a few nights a certain hotel, you get free round trip airfare.
Or just be like the rest of us plebians and take the drive. Once you get past the boring desert part its not too bad

I mean, It's mammoth. Sure, you have to pass Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Sierra on the way up, but it's fucking Mammoth, Dood.
(not to mention all the north tahoe spots)
I know there are flights out of SFO, you could always take BART/bus to SFO and fly from there.
