I admit that im a total park rat, But im not an asshole to other skiers in the park. i notice that some of us arent really the most friendly to eachother. Like if someone were to ask to ski along with my crew if they were alone they could totally tag along and i hope i could do the same with crews at a mountain im not familiar with.

i completely understand that but when someones a cunt about it thats just not chill.
As a single generalized group on the mountain. Park rats (many of them very nice people), act like such dicks. In the lift line, on the slopes, just act like a general asshole. Not to mention most of the ones that act like that are the one who suck at skiing.

A lot of the time it stems from their own insecurities as a skier and person, just trying to be too cool. A lot of it has to do with age too. Generally, the 13-18 demographic is more likely to be dick-ish then 18+. I experienced it a lot when I was growing up too, some people are just assholes or bullies. Try to brush it off and meet some other people. So many kids are just trying to be the best and think they are the shit, in reality, they aren't and probably suck at life and skiing.
It's not just skiers, but people in general. Think about the people at your school, I'm guessing some are cool and some are pricks.

Perfectly said 10/10
I think skiing is way to focused on skiing ability. It seems that people who are really good get more attention and subsequently more sponsorship than good skiers who are chill people. I think people can get away with this because you are all dressed up and you can almost pretend to be someone you're not, a bit like all the gangsters in ski edits who are just random kids when off the snow.
I hope this changes and unique skiers get more attention, either for creativity character, etc.
It's really nice if you do a more "lifestyle" sport( most forms of surfing and beach sport). I find that when you're out there having fun in a more open scenario it's easier to see who is a nice guy and is more valuable as a rider/ rep. Also when people aren't wearing headwear, they are easier to recognise and less inclined to act like douches.
I think you're skiing at the wrong mountain if thats how everyone acts. If you ever have the chance to spend some time in hood during the summer everyone is nicer than your average grandma and its the same at my home mountain in new hampshire.

yeah ive experienced some tahoe mountains, bachy and a couple down south like mammoth etc. i may take a trip to hood in the next couple weeks but if not ill def be at WCS next year then windells so ill get a lot of hood in. im excited to see some chiller skiers

I would always ski around by myself and meet up with random people or crews at different mountains growing up. For the most part everyone was super chill and was just stoked to meet other like-minded individuals. I met so many random people or NS'ers riding the park (planned or unplanned), it was awesome. 10 years ago, there was not many skiers riding park so I it was definitely a bit different, there was a bit more of a community feel, it's still there to an extent though.
What's so strange about riding with new people? Sounds like you might have the wrong attitude about riding and people in general. I've met lots of cool new people doing various things I love, like mountain biking, shooting video, fly-fishing, skiing, etc...why the fuck wouldn't you want to chill with people who are interested in the same stuff as you?

Exactly man, i feel like we all need to embrace eachother and gain more of that community aspect of freeskiing back
Most of the people that are dicks think their really good but suck. And most of them are insecure so they take it out on other skiers.
fear that they are not the best skier on the mountain
Its same in rock climbing, there a lot of dicks but then you have plenty of people that would love to spot you or help you with a bouldering problem.
The age range is def key here, most people who are dicks are usually freshmen in college and below or at least that is what i have noticed especially here on the east coast. If you go to smaller mountains skiers are way nicer. Places like Mt Sunapee that doesnt have a diesel park like Mt Snow or Killinton, you are probably going to find some chill as fuck skiers to link up with. Mt Snow on the other hand it might be a little harder to find a crew that will let you ride with them. Fortunately for me when i go alone i can always end up lapping with some other kid who is by himself of a smaller crew of people about my age.
Its weird. especially compared to other sports. Snowboarders are a lot more friendly to each other. I also rollerblade and rollerbladers are so friendly to each other. Like when a rollerblader shows up to my local skatepark I get stoked and me and my friends just spend the day with that guy

Not that I have seen. I worked as a lifty for two year and the only time I have seen fights are between snowboarders.
For me it's a lot to do with the way I was raised by my dad. We always skied together when I was little and I saw him welcome strangers onto a lift with us and talk to people on the mountain frequently so I find myself doing the same. However kids who never had that experience when they were young don't seem to understand mountain etiquette.

There is nothing wrong with meeting people while skiing or with skiing with random people. I have done both multiple times. However, OP seems to be suggesting that prefering to ski alone or with friends, not with random people, makes someone a 'dick'.
Ive never had problems with anyone. Most snowboarders think they are cool. But usually they are little punks
I agree with everyone saying its an age thing. Younger kids are trying super hard to progress and be the best kid in the park, which is great and super important for progressing the sport in general, but it definitely adds a bit of tension to the whole scene. College-aged kids are more likely to just be mad turnt and goofing off whether they're throwing down or not.
some kids think its funny to be assholes to people.

I really have noticed this. All the guys I know who board and I hang out with are really just friendly guys who like having fun. I do have a good bunch of skiing friends that are real nice to everyone but then there are a couple of people I know or have met who ski who are just arrogant pricks. But then again it could just be a coincidence
Skiing, skateboarding, mountain biking, surfing, even disk golfing. They're all the same. Some people are incredibly nice and open. Others are defensive of their turf and the small size of their penis.
i only talk shit because its fun to mess around like that, and im usually always drunk or high, mostly both

I don't think we know that you're joking...? Usually Matt comes off as a complete douche, not jokingly either. We just call him part of our crew, because he's got dat purp name so we can get the ins on ns.
I hate when people make fun of other kids trying to progress in the park. Some of us(myself included) haven't been park skiing all that long. We all started somewhere! So next time you see a kid smile ear to ear because he threw his first 270 out of a flat rail, instead of thinking how simple of a trick that is for you, go up and congratulate him. Spread positivity
Yeah I agree some people are just big douche bags. I also find this in other community's such as skateboarding. I hope soon the freestyle community can come together more and bring back he happy chill lifestyle part of skiing so we all act like a family and help eatch other out. +k
because people are dicks
and we have such colorful characters such as Hugo who are dicks
i feel it can be insecurity and maybe just trying to act tough like "im better than you".
i just ignore those guys, talk to anyone whos near by, and have loads of fun whether im on my own, throwing nasty tricks, or just dickin around. i just have fun. too many people forget to just have fun i think, and become those assholes
Soooo many dicks at 7 springs. Mostly people 13-18 like it was stated above. I've seen kids getting harassed constantly. I'll step in if it seems like they are helpless, and I have made some enemies doing so. The rich-entitled assholes are the worst. With that being said there are some super cool, super chill kids at springs as well. The cooler ones are also better at skiing 99% of the time.

I guess. I don't know though. Last week though I went to woodward and all the snowboarders were talking and having a good time and some of the skiers were just avoiding each other. I did end up talking to this guy and he was pretty nice
