I read somewhere NASA had plans to either intercept an asteroid or put a piece of equipment on it. Wouldnt, as humans who have no interstellar travel abilities, putting some sort of transmitter on an asteroid be the fastest and most efficient way of traveling through space at this time?
astroids are for pussys. put that shit on a comet.
But we already did in 2001 with the NEAR probe.
no because eventually it will either get pulled into a planet's gravitational pull or flying to a sun destroying whatever's put on it. fastest yes but it is uncontrollable
I did a whole presentation on this type of thing a few years back. Really neat with what some of their plans are. A big topic is actually asteroid mining, because as far as we know, they contain an abundance of super rare minerals to us on earth. Google is one of the most interested parties.. Here's an article http://www.cbsnews.com/news/asteroid-mining-venture-backed-by-james-cameron-google-ceo-larry-page/
As far as space travel.... I'm not quite sure what you're saying there, because asteroids revolve around the sun. So you definitely could have access to some of the planets in our solar system, but as far as space travel beyond that, we're still shit out of luck. There's also been talk of trying to put fuel bases on the moon, mars, and venus I believe. Cool stuff!
I remember hearing a theory that you could make a giant elevator on a cord that extended into space. The centrifugal force would hold it in place and you could take an elevator to space. We need that shit to happen it sounds awesome.
