I kinda wish there was someone big in the ski racing world who would rock the rasta colors and spread good vibes because ski racers seriously need to chill the fuck out. I hate how judgmental we are of anyone who isn't in a fucking spandex suit. I like the freeski mentality of just being chill, well at least thats the vibe I'm getting. In ski racing It's all about who has the most expensive shit while in freeskiing it seems like you guys don't really care and it's awesome. I get that there are still trends and stuff in freeskiing but I like them a whole lot better than the ones in ski racing. I guess what I want to say is I'm sorry for ski racers being such dicks.
You could literally interchange the words "freeskiing" and "ski racing" and it would be the same.
Also, I stopped taking you seriously after you said "rasta colors"
then go ski race in rasta colors, see how fast your dignity decays.
they could out ski you in the blink of an eye so complaining about them doesn't really do anything.
you should give them weed brownies so they're more chyll
SnowshoeThompsonyou should give them weed brownies so they're more chyll
I could totally go for some good pot brownies right now.

Super simple solution:
1. Quit racing
2. Buy Twin Tips
3. Go in Terrain Park
4. ?????
5. Profit.
From experience, you're absolutely right. Racing breeds cocky attitudes all about winning. Freeskiing is about skiing with your friends and having a good time. I loved to slay gates but hated racing. Quitting was the best thing I ever did.
nice fourth grade explanation. even tho i agree

We do different sports and the mentality of these sports are completely opposite.
Racing is standardized to hell and back so the mentality is so much more strict. That's why some racers may come across as uptight.
To you that comes across as them being a dick but to them it's being focused and training to be the best. If you're a racer, you're on a team and competing. People don't just race for fun.
Freesking is about creativity, style, etc. and it's not as restricted. That's why freeskiers in general seem to be more laid back. I'm not trying to say freeskiers aren't focused but most people who freeski aren't competing. It's mostly a recreational sport so there's a lot less pressure to be the best(sorta).
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that the nature of both sports form complete opposite personalities. And this is what I think makes racers and freeskiers clash so much.
You prefer the laid back style of freeskiing and that's just who you are. You like freeskiing and not racing. That doesn't mean racers suck or that they're wrong or anything. I've met a lot of really awesome racers and you can't judge them all because of a few dicks. Just putting this out there, racers usually are no more annoying than freeskiers.
Give up...seriously, the horse is already dead!
Just offer some racers a nice joint if you're with them on the lift. They'll think your the chyllest freeskier ever and will totally not alert ski patrol about your use of marijuana.

Truth.
You are also generalizing a lot of ski racers. There are a bunch who are extremely uptight and cocky, but then there are also the ones who are extremely laid back and relaxed. It all depends on the person. Ski racing doesn't make you uptight, but you may find an uptight ski racer just like you may find an uptight freeskier. It is life.
Working a summer of lifts at tline you see every race team through the summer. And 97.6% of them are douchebags. Just other day a ski coach stabbed a chick in the chest with his pole for her using her line cutting pass, etc etc. They're just mad they have to pay 600 a day just to get a lane to ride on. But I digress some are cool most are tools.
If it makes you feel any better when I used to ski race I'd go down backwards and beat people.
lonewolf_rock the rasta colors and spread good vibes
You're tacky and I hate you.
Sh4dowSSX type racing would be fun.
So much this. Totally read my mind
I do both. (Well... in the UK)
It helps improve technique, speed awareness and overall ability around the whole mountain.
Race face yay
technically, you should thank a ski racer. without them, there probably wouldnt be a lot of the pros you see today. freestyle was all about rebelling from the norm of the ski world ex: ski racers.
so next time, thank a racer!

Chubz.they could out ski you in the blink of an eye so complaining about them doesn't really do anything.

WAIT I'VE GOT AN IDEA......................WHO THE HELL CARES.
the real problem here is that you care waaay too much about the subject.

This. I race on a high school level, and usually the more uptight people I come across tend to most likely be a really competitive person who races outside of high school skiing. Then come the parents, some are just proud to see their kid finish without being disqualified or crashing. But the racing parents, however, they want their kids to be in the top 5 or 10 to make it to States and possibly into regionals (meaning part of the country, not within the area you live within the state high school sports division).
Outside of high school skiing, I freeski, but I will also be working as a ski instructor. Even though I'm still competing on a high school level, I'm still learning so I can bring the techniques I've learned in practice to teaching people how to ski, minus the coaches yelling and the uptight mood.
to be honest there is just as many douchebag racers as there are freeskier douchebag
im a cocky little bitch who loves spandex #racer
How it is for my mountain anyway.
Racing coaches: mixed. Either chill or douchebags
Racing kids: mostly nice and cool people. A couple spoiled kids but overall pretty good.
Freestyle coaches: the ones I've talked to/skied with were mad cool people.
Freestyle kids: 50-50. Seems to be spoiled jackasses mixed with some of the nicest people on the mountain.
I totally agree, racers in the park is what makes me most mad. They dont know how to wait their turn and they cut everyone off and dont hit any features. I wish they stayed in the race course.

This so much. sooooo many people race before going into freeskiing. Myself included.
also, I take back what I said about you being laid back. You're the uptight asshole who cares more about others than yourself. Seriously girl, the more you hate the less fun you're gonna have. Let them be. They share the same passion we do.

This is similar at my mountain, too. The freestyle team at my mountain is an absolute joke though. The coach is nice and is more of a mogul-oriented person, but the kids are jumping beans who will hit strictly jumps.
With the racing team, however, I've met some hot and chill racer chicks so that's a bonus from when I used to race. Most of the other racers are cool, but some are complete comp-jocks.
It's rare to find a chill race coach, but my high school ski team coach is a coach for the race program at my local mountain outside of school, and he's pretty chill sometimes.
The racers at my mountain are chill as hell. Yea some of them can act like dicks sometimes but for the most part they are pretty cool kids. Not to mention there are WAY more hot girls who race.
The park kids generally are pretty nice kids overall. But are wayyyyy worse at skiing overall. Never understood the racer hate. If you don't like them leave them alone. Chances are they are way better than you are.

I must admit this is true
I am also a UK bro hitting up both.
Protip: Uni ski racing is the most chyll fun thing you'll ever do...
maybe cause it's the carpet we ski on mayn
The referenced post has been removed.
That's how she wants it, but it won't happen because ski racing is more strictly regulated by FIS than freeskiing is.
honestly, I think all you people that claim to hate racers never even had a bad interaction with them at all, and are just hating because it seems to be the "cool" thing to do. and even if you did have one, your irrational hate and fear of racers is absurd. just go skiing for fucks sake and worry about yourself.
Who cares? As long as you are sliding on snow and having fun, then you are ok by my book. I will say that the best dudes on my mountain have a race background. I'm jealous of them. They seem to just be able to freeski in a much more effortless and efficient manner. Bumpers, racers, snowboarders, park rats, pure powder snobs, big mountain rippers, and stoned to the bone telemarkers are just enjoying the mountains. And if you don't think that some of the guys on the Dew Tour and X-Games are not insanely competitive and throw fits when they don't win, you are very mistaken. There's competition skiing and there's just skiing for fun. To each their own.
