I've met some pretty dumb park crew in my life but I think the worst story is when I jumped onto the side of a rail while a girl was raking the lip and she freaked out and yelled at me for doing so. And to add on, some random snowboard girl felt the need to lecture me on how I could fall and really hurt her (Because falling up a hill and braking a girls leg is very likely to happen.) I just want to here some other funny stories about park crew of lifties or basically anyone on a hill that has started a stupid argument.
so this one time, I read OP's thread and I wanted to kill myself
Hope this is a troll. Knew a kid who broke his arm because some asshole did the same thing. He was raking out the landing and got smoked when some kid jumped on from the side. Would it kill you to wait until they are done raking.
I had a ski ruined by a box with a screw coming out of it. Park crew apologized, closed the feature and fixed it overnight, and gave me a free repair. Pretty chyll.
Why the fuck would you do that? Have some respect dude. If it was one of your friends it probably wouldn't have mattered but like why couldn't you wait?
I've never been in an argument with anyone in our park crew. Mountain watch tho...a few arguments.
It was 10ish in the morning during the week. Literally there were 15 other cars in the parking lot and my friend and I were the only people on this run. We were going pretty fast but we didn't say at the top "Oh let's race" we were just going fast. We assumed that because it wasn't busy no one would really care that we were going so fast. 3/4 of the way down the hill I heard a faint yell over my headphones. I took them out and looked behind me and I have no idea where this mountain watch guy came from but he was bombing down towards us. There were no trails that merged anywhere near where we were so it was like he was just chillin in the woods waiting to chase people down and yell at them. So we get to the bottom and he comes up to us and bitches at us for a good 5 minutes about the safety of others. After trying to explain to him that we were in control and that there was nobody around we got another 5 minute lecture about our own safety and it was just retarded.
You don't know bad park crew until youve skied the 500 ft vertical converted landfill ski resorts of the midwest... I hit a box that tipped over, went to the "park crew" (stoned lifty opperating the tow rope), who gave me a shovel and said "Ok."
I cant stand park crew that digs out a feature and doesnt put anything in that spot for the next week or so. Fuckin take it out that night and put a new one in the next morning dont just move it off to the side when its part of my line...
One time there was aboit a 18 inch pow day and I came off the ridge at loveland going back to the lodge to refuel, so I cruised through the park. The second I leave the park, park crew starts yelling at me for being in the park when there is pow all over. His argument made no sence and I'm pretty sure he realized that so he starts telling me that the park is unsafe when there is snow on it. Anyway, it was just weird.
respect your local park crew, they have to deal with so much shit the last thing you should do is show them disrespect when their trying to make the park look nice.
OP, your park crew actually maintains the lips of features after they build them? Consider yourself lucky.
I work in the park crew both ranger and instructor and this one morning it was another dude turn to rake the lips and make them nice after a 5cm snowfall. When i go in the park to make sure he did a good job, I noticed that he raked everything but then walked on every lip meaning that there was some big boots hole in the jumps.
Another story our cat driver sucked balls this year so we told him not to touch the jumps because he was going to screw them up. So i come in in the morning to go work and make everything nice for the day and notice that he left a big pile of snow large like the jump and 1 feet high right in front of both jumps. He also broke two boxes one by trying to lift it but he missed the holes for the cat's fork and crushed the sides. The other box he drove on it with the thing that makes the trails nice and he just shredded the box plexiglass completely
heres a story.
one time park crew didn't open the park.

I got sent for a ride like that 7 or 8 years ago. Was early season and we didn't have that much open. Was trying will a bomb hole quick and push out the rolls from people stopping so you could land without being in a mogul field. Usually I wouldn't fuck with a landing but I had the jump closed off and the sides fenced off with somebody standing on the jump and thought I was safe for the 5-10 min I needed to fix it.
All of the sudden I heard a noise and my legs went out from under me and I was flying in the air down the landing. Some how neither me nor that asshat that ran me over got broken from the crash or impaled by the rake I had.
Apparently the kid ollied or cut between the boards and went off the corner around the bamboo. I was stoked. Just what I needed that day. If I had broken an arm or something and been out for a while I probably would have sent the mob after him.

common. people don't know what actually going on in the parc so they fill in the blanks themselves. tend to be negative.
There's a lady at COP who will spend half an hour raking besides the rails, after doing the lip and landing. We can never figure out why she does it but it's frustrating as hell.
Park crews that take out everybody's favorite feature and put something retarded in its place
If you have that much of a problem with it that you need to bitch about it, go work for your park crew and fix the problem you're bitching about. You can be the guy who doesn't care about guys hopping on the sides while you're raking.

Chances are there is a reason for not putting something else in. Some moutains will close the entire run for a few days to do a rebuild, but many have to do it little by little.
To the OP, did you cut close to her to hit it from the side? I usually don't mind if somebody goes halfway down the rail and hits it while I'm raking, but if you are within distance where I could hit you with a rake it is annoying as shit.

Yes, it might be the same person but she takes like an hour and a half to rake the bigs. I remember going up the chair and for like 10-15 laps she was still there raking it.

She once took half an hour raking first kiddy.
One time the park crew was trying to do their job, but I thought it would be way cooler to make their job harder by doing everything they tell me not to do. This one dude came up to me and told me he'd call ski patrol and I was all like "why don't you get a real job, like asking your parents for money?". The bumbling retard just walked away, obviously stumped by my superior, twelve year old logic.
park crew snowboarder ran into me when i was standing to the side of a feature, trying to be out of the way where i could still get speed to hit the next rail. i apologize just to be nice and he starts yelling at me saying "IM SICK OF ALL THESE FUCKING SKIERS" and begins to go on about how my friend and i do not have respect for our elders. twas odd. it would be like crashing into someones parked car and then yelling at them for it
TOAST.Chances are there is a reason for not putting something else in. Some moutains will close the entire run for a few days to do a rebuild, but many have to do it little by little.
This for sure. Depends a lot on the staffing for builds. If you got the people you can turn over a whole park depending on size in a night. IF you only have like 2 people you gotta do things in stages. And you aren't always rocking the same layout. I don't know the situation was though. Maybe they just really didn't like him and took out his favorite feature to make him cry.

I don't agree with him bitching about skiers but if you're standing right next to a rail so you can hit the next one you could be in the way. A better analogy would be you parked your half sticking into the freeway. Should the guy have avoided it? sure, but sometimes things get wild and your car shouldn't you shouldn't have parked there.
If you just hit everything in a line or stay far enough to the side of features that nobody will hit you everybody's happy and skiers and boarders can all hug and be friends and stuff.
connorwtvI understand that your just doing a little hating but wrong meme...
best I could do at work on short notice. Message still got through right? Awesome.

Yea I get that they are trying to rebuild of course, no park crew can dig out 30+ features in one night and they would do it little by little. but I mean they will remove it from its place and even if the park was fully rebuilt in the next week or so. The feature could still be used in its orginal spot and its been tossed off to the side without the intent of ever using it in the next build or rest of the season which Ive seen countless times at my mtn :(

It's definitely her, I've had a couple stand offs with her when she just wouldn't stop raking. She spends like a fucking hour making a diamond pattern on the jump before letting us hit it while they just let some other jumps go to shit. I also don't know what was up with the pole jam sticking straight up out of the hip at the end of the year, straight up dumb.
When I was a park attendant I'd been ran into, cussed out and had received multiple threats from people for the most ridiculous things. Long story short, respect your park staff(unless they really are butt holes)

I also don't agree with the whole yelling at skiers thing, some people are just douches but what you might not notice is that some times u maybe in the way of a transfer which tends to happen alot and can get extremely annoying when ur trying to get creative and someones directly in your path even tho it may seem like your completely out of their way! but there are usually rollers made in larger parks made specifically for stoping so u can hit the next feature with enough speed and if not just ride through the park without stopping which also reduces speed bumbs and Ice patches on landings which can be a piss off for riders and the park crew! It also creates better flow of traffic in the park which means not waiting to hit a feature for 30mins cause some kids in the way!

True, that sucks. Maybe in a not super nagging way ask why the feature is out and what the plan is.
I worked at one mountain where 2 years the biggest rail on the mountain sat on the side. One season it was just next to the trail chillin and the other I actually had to help hide it in the woods so that the head management wouldn't see it. Was a bummer honestly. Sad that I helped do something so heinous.
It was a battleship. Not that big but super fun rail. Actually got it pushed over on me by the cat there once too.
I feel like these days most places at least have good intentions with the park. Sometimes the park crew is down to take recommendations though. Unless you come in hopped up on redbull yelling about how cool an up right down left loop de loop rail would be.

I'd say it was about a rake length away. It wasn't at my home mountain either. Where I usually go, the park crew is pretty chill and I have complete respect for them. As long as your being safe while they are fixing a lip to a rail it's ok. But I guess the lady from the hill I was visiting did not think the same way.
Be nice to your park crew members. They will make the park nicer if you show appreciation and respect. Dealing with shitty kids on the other hand does not motivate a person.
If the park at your local mountain isn't up to par, its probably not the fault of the dudes raking lips. I worked park crew this past season at a small mountain in new york and so many people bitched to me about the landings of our jumps. Yes I have discussed it with the higher ups, no I can't drive a cat and actually shape it nice and no I can't move a 35 foot rail by myself and set it in just for you on a suoer busy day.
AW DUDE YOU SHOULD SET THIS RAIL UP RIGHT THERE. Yeah don't fucking say that.
LilTuneskiThere's a lady at COP who will spend half an hour raking besides the rails, after doing the lip and landing. We can never figure out why she does it but it's frustrating as hell.
At my hill we rake the sides of the rail for two major reason. first we clear the side of any big chunk of ice or to put fresh snow to cover ice patches. We also rake the side to uncover the logos on the side of the boxes but thats usually only when theres a competition. But talk to her and ask her why she is doing
One time SFB got Eiffel towered by the park crew and i watched. It was so funny lol it's so funny when he plays jokes on our friends. No homo though.

It doesnt happen as much anymore cause our park crew is way better and gets better every season. Im chill with everyone on the crew tho, two of my buddies that I rode with season after season applied for it and made but I naturally made buddies with the others in the crew before that cause Im so local. Now I just roll in the park hut and sleep on their couch haha. We used to have a pretty lazy park crew lol so I think that was the problem
There was a rail jam at my ski hill so the park cru had a big box of stickers and the guy carrying them tripped and the stickers flew all over the hill so we spent 20 minutes picking up all the stickers so we could start the rail jam.

I asked her, she didn't tell me. It is also usually just this one flat up rail that she devotes her time to as well. I would understand if she was clearing ice but even then it shouldn't take as long as it does for her. That being said I actually like and respect the park crew at my hill for the most part and our features are generally in great condition but she just confuses the shit out of me.
OP is a dumbass. if you hit my lip while im raking it i'll freak out on you too. have some respect. we dont know when you're approaching from behind if you're some howlie who can barely ski and is going to run us over or someone half decent. so just stay away.
OP is a retard!!! Think of it from their point of view your basically telling them to fix the park which u should be grateful just for having and when they do fix it you not only eff up their lip before their finished but your also putting them in harms way by hitting a feature when some ones either on the take off or on the landing! I also did my first year on park crew last year on nights at a small local resort and I quickly realized how disrespectful kids are to their park crew I was hit numerous of times when racking a landing or lip, people would other ski under posts or jump over or ride over my skis that had the feature closed while I was racking a feature, it literally got to the point where I would move out of the way and throw the rake on the landing and let them eff up their gear and they would continue to do it and I'm a pretty chill person and there were definitely a few times where I turned into that dick of a digger that no one likes. and most people on park crew are lazy enough especially alot at my hill, since most were just there for an "easy job" or volunteers and doing this kinda shit makes us wanna do less so if u respect ur diggers shit might actually get done!
srry for the rant.
Basically respect your diggers and shit will get done and alot of the new features we put in we have to fight the resort just to let us do so then convince groomers to help us out which is a difficult task at my hill! so its not always the diggers fault for not getting stuff made there's usually more to it!
Well OP if you didn't have these "dumb" park crew you wouldn't have a park at all and when they close a feature and you hit it anyways no shit there gunna yell at you. there just trying to do there job without getting hurt by some park rat who can't wait one more park lap to hit a feature
jason...OP is a dumbass. if you hit my lip while im raking it i'll freak out on you too. have some respect. we dont know when you're approaching from behind if you're some howlie who can barely ski and is going to run us over or someone half decent. so just stay away.

We leave rails on the side of the trail all the time because there isn't much space where we store rails so getting different ones out is a pain in the ass so we will just leave them along the side until we want it back in. Management hates it and it looks like shit, but it takes a few hours out of build time.
connorwtvi jumped on the side... why would i hit the lip while they're on it.
It still scares the shit out of you when your back is turned and somebody skis by that close to you and if you were a rakes length away that is too close. You don't need to be on the lip to put yourself or the park crew in danger.
OP is a dumbass
if the park crew is working on a feature, skip it
its a matter of respect dude, park crew doesn't work because it gets well paid, they do so because they love it
