can someone explain air awareness for me
It is the awareness of the air around you.
MPapaniaThanks asshole
Any time home slice
It's basically understanding where you are in the air. It doesn't matter what "sport" you're doing, it could be on skis, on a trampoline, a diving board, whatever you are in the air during. It also involves all axises of the trick, so flip, spin, or off axis. Finally, the more flips/spins you're doing, the more air awareness required. getting your body to do one flip can be hard, getting your body used to that one flip and then telling it to do more is even harder. This is why tricks like Jesper's switch triple front flip are so impressive, they require an incredible amount of air awareness (plus that trick is supremely blind - so you rely only on your air awareness to know what's up and what's down).
so basically being able to judge how far into a rotation and how close to the landing you are without having to look at the ground? or is spotting your landing throughout the trick a part of air awareness?
It's basically knowing where you are in the air. For example, you're doing a double front. It's knowing where in your rotation you are. So it's knowing when you're doing the first and second flip I guess you could say. It also means knowing if you need to get tighter to spin faster or opening up to slow down. A lot of it is muscle memory and comes with experience. You can't really teach yourself air awareness in any other way but doing a trick over and over again till it's second nature pretty much. The more air awareness the better and more comfortable you'll be. And new tricks are easier to commit to.

Yep! With spotting a landing it depends. I would say after or when you're almost done rotating you should spot your landing. I don't spot the whole time. Just when I know I'm about to land. And that takes air awareness to know when to spot it I guess. I guess you could consider it part of air awareness. I don't necessarily but you can.

Both. It depends on the trick.
For example, in double front flip you're fairly blind during the whole trick, so you need to know when to open up and extend your body to land with out seeing the ground. Where as, in a rodeo 5 you can fully spot your landing almost the whole time. Both tricks require air awareness, but in two different ways. Don't think of it as whether or not you can see the landing, it's just knowing where you are during the trick (by any means necessary)
so like staying conscious and aware throughout the trick rather than just hucking and hoping for the best
MPapaniathanks everyone except for schwartz!
I SAID EVERYTHING THEY SAID IN ONE SMALL SENTENCE.
Arnold.SchwartzIt is the awareness of the air around you.

No. Actually you were wrong. It's the awareness of where your body is in the air. Not being aware of the air.

Yep. I love a good hucking but for your own sake you should gain the air awareness necessary to comfortably land a trick.
Air awareness and body control go hand it hand. You can be "aware" that you are about to royally fuck up a trick because you don't have the requisite body control to perform said trick.

MAI MAIN BOI HERE ARNOLD SCHWARTZ
Its just knowing where you are in the air so you can spot know when to land and know what to do. Half of it is seeing where you are like by seeing your landing or by just guessing where you are. jumping on tramps really improves this
When throwing a trick you are either aware of where you are in the rotation/trick and whether or not you are going to fall/land or you do not. Anyone who has done any off axis flip will know the exact feeling of if you know what you are doing or you do not.
