Hi, I got my t3i 2 days ago but it is really grainy...i have everything on manual... my shutter is at 30, my iso is 1600 and my f thing is 5.6... I have a 18-55mm kit lens??? help me get the best quality out of this camera!
first thing that come to mind is that you are using a very low shutter speed ( assuming that you are filming that is) it doesnt particularly make a shot grainy but you'll get a shit ton of motion blur like that, general rule is to be at least double your frame rate e.g if you're shooting at 25fps set it to ATLEAST 50 shutter speed.
You also probably want to drop your iso, this is most likely what is making your shots grainy, obviously if you're filming low light its really hard, but if you can keep it under 800 you should see a marked difference.
having your aperture at 5.6 is fine.
it all reall depends on what you're filming though, filming skiing you're going to be using very different exposure settings to filming indoors for instance.
Have you ever wanted to cook a meal but every dish and utensil you need is dirty and needs to be hand washed, so you just give up and don't make the meal? That's how I feel about this thread.
Your image is grainy because you'e shooting 1600 iso. I wouldn't set your iso past 800 on a canon dslr.

Put the camera down and read up on stuff.
Pick it back up when you are done in five years time.

He is right about wanting to have the shutter speed double your fps but u will probaly want your fps to be at 60 (therefore your shutter speed should be about 120)
Not that you should plan to save your footage in post, but if you end up in a tricky situation with noisy footage there is an amazing AE plugin called Neat Video that can work miracles with noise reduction. Super easy to use, and better than any other noise reduction software right now.

I've been out of the loop for some time, but last I checked Neat had quite the reputation for denoising.

No it definitely does, when the fs100 came out I remember people saying they used neat video on iso 12800 footage.
I tried get it free but gave up because I didn't really need it, then i discovered mb denoiser and is quite easy to get.
