If I took the lip out and just made the tranny right up to the rail would that work? So no lip and the flat spot would be about 20 inches or so off the ground. I suck at describing things sorry.

A lot of things will work. The biggest problem people have is speed. Hit build a jib cult, google some stuff, look at ns pictures or just grab a saw and wing it.

What we did is put 2 16ft boards that were connected on their back and flexed them until we got the shape we wanted. still have to add more supports and the lip. Saved alot of lumber and got a smooth transition. Thinking about making a tutorial on this type if it works well.

well I already had the platform and steps built. I think that took around 3 hours. and the slope took about 4 hours to where I am now. but alot of that time was just kind of coming up with a design and seeing what looked right and what would work. I probably have another 2-3 hours to finish it. I think i am going to take the last two cross boards off and start my lip on from there. there is really not much to building it.

I still would build the flat and drop in solid then add the transition and takeoff with plywood. The more solid it is the longer it will last. Adding supports in after can work depending on how it's done
Also running the all the 2x4s on there side makes it more solid. On the crosses I guess it doesn't make that much of a difference if you're ramp is only 3 feet wide but I always feel like why not.

Alright this is what we did today. I still have to add the HDPE and carpet. Going to see how this works before i make any adjustments. If i were to make adjustments to it i think i would make the kickers( diagnal supports on the right) shorter and/or move the lip closer to the platform.
Hopefully it holds up but it looks a bit scary the way the whole ramp from drop in to take off is floating on a couple of supports to the ground.

I'm seeing significant speed problems in your future, sorry to say. Slope is too gentle and tranny is too long. The only way that will work is if you use rollers of some sort.

that is about to be very slow.
i have a 5.5 foot high drop and mine works for 2 reasons. 1, my drop is steep. 2, i have horizontal pvc for the drp instead of m snow or turf.
i would recommend trying the pvc, i fount its the fastest. if that doesnt work you need to rebuild that buddy

OP, your going to have some major speed issues with the set up you have assuming your using turf. Even with soap and water I doubt you will even make it off the lip. The tranny is waaayyy too long, you'll have some speed but you'll lose it all on the flat transition. Your gonna have to make some adjustments, which is pretty normal for building your first drop in. First off, your gonna need to remove the entire middle section that I put a red X over. There's no need for it and you'll lose speed. Cut it off at both of the support legs and then you can replace it with your lip. You'll be cutting those 16 ft boards you bent and then find a way to attach to lip. Plywood over that and you should be good to go. This probably seems like a pain in the ass but it's even more of a pain when you build the entire drop in only to find out it's too slow.

I dont think you realize how solid it is. because the boards are already flexed there is not much more flex in the the boards. Those supports are holding them down bc once the screws are taken out it springs back up.

As much as i wanted to prove all you wrong and for it to work, it didnt. haha. Cutting that out and adding the lip right there is exactly what i was going to do. do you think i should mellow the lip out if I move it up or is the same lip dimensions just moved up alright? Idk if you can see it but I cut sheets of HDPE to put over the cross-boards. I saw other people do it this way and thought it would cut down on friction. Do i need to pull that up and add plywood? thanks for offering advice.

Creative isn't really good unless it solves a problem. If it works better or is more efficient that's great. The whole thread could just move over to build a jib cult anyway though.

No the HDPE rollers OP has will work much better than turf. They have less surface area so they will provide more speed. Of course I would prefer turf over rollers since your skis could drop potentially drop through, but the rollers will work perfectly fine

Interested to see how that works. I think you are definitely gonna want to put plywood over at least the bottom half because you will have no control with just the slats. The HDPE up top will be clutch tho. Post a vid when its all said and done.
I made it quite a bit shorter and it works well but i am still have problems with sliding out up top where the HDPE is. i think i might get some different turf that is faster or msnow. Im not sure yet.
