Hey there NSrs. I am sad to report that last year I suffered from the ever-so-awesome unhappy triad knee blow out. I got reconstruction surgery November 8th last year and was told that m y clearing date to do activities again would be 6 months. Making my clearing date on wednesday. I have been doing all my physical therapy with a few seldom nights that I just don't do the at home PT and have been charging the gym at least twice a week. What I'm really trying to get at is has anyone here hit the mountain on their 6 month clearing day? and if you did how was your knee? how many runs did you get to take? etc for pain and tolerance. I appreciate all the support I've received from you guys already, so I'm just looking for one last tip.
Would not do, while i havent torn an acl, i sprained an ankle skateboarding....
i ended up being really scared to try tricks, and a week after getting over my fears, i re injured it to a worse degree and ruined my summer. just wait it out, its for the best

I appreciate the feedback homie.
also forgot to mention; WILL NOT be going anywhere near a park, and it's supposed to snow about 2 inches the night before we head out to the mountain.
I did.
I tore my ACL skiing in March. Finished skiing the season on one ACL. Went to the doctor at the end of May, had surgery on July 20, and was skiing January 21st. Exactly 6 months after surgery.
But I also did 12+hrs of PT a week for that 6 months. And my surgeon and PT wanted me to be back skiing.

How was the pain in your knee? What excercies did you make sure you were doing? (sorry for the questions, i'm just getting more stoked by the day to think i might be able to ski after a year of not doing so)

When? After the injury? Before the surgery? During rehab? Skiing for the first time?
I ski with my knee brace still, ever though I don't have to any more. I do as a reminder to slow down a bit

Skiing for the first time. I bought a brand new brace that actually fits me like heaven. But I'm a little worried it might suck the first day back because skiing is a lot of work for most people; especially after taking a year off. Your first day about how many runs did you take? What was your ability level compared to pre injury?
if your doctor is fine with it then go for it, they wouldn't let you if it wasn't a good idea
No pain.
The biggest thing was mental. Just being able to trust that the graft was strong and could take it.
My first day was two runs. Same with the next. My third day was cat skiing with a group of level III/IV ski instructors from Banff. I was a little nervous the first trip up in the cat, but I told them all what was going on, just in case. It turned out that I was fine, and was shredding just as hard as the rest of the guys, ever though some of them had 40+ days on snow and I only had 5 runs.
It was all mental. I was in better shape than ever, I just had to be able to believe in myself.
i would as long as i had a brace and strengthened the crap out of it.
if you slacked off with your physio and can't single leg dead lift, squat, do bosu stuff.. you might be in that risk for reinjury catagory.
4-6 months is that wishy washy gradual return to sport period.
maybe hit the slopes, go easy on it, see where you're at.
I was back in 5.5 months, and hit my first box at exactly 6 months. However, I was on the gym at least an hour a day, often twice a day, and was doing intense "return to sports" pt until I was cleared. I took it VERY seriously and it paid off. If you think that you were slacking off in the recovery, just wait until next year. Plus it's the end of the season... Why risk heavy slushy conditions for a few days, versus wait and be 100% at the start of next season
Take it easy man. I've torn mine twice and was real eager to get back both times. Start slow and build confidence in your knee. My first few days out this year I couldn't even pop off a roller because I could tell my knee wasn't ready for it. It's different for everyone.
I appreciate all the feedback guys! On the bright side I got in contact with my surgeon. He gave me the ohkay to go out as long as I'm in a brace and stay out of the park. If anyone in this thread is in Colorado come chill at a bay next Wednesday.
