Im going to camp in the summer. Want to know if water ramps will fuck up my skis. What about boots, and bindings too? Should I bring the stuff that I dont typically use because I sold all my old stuff and only have two sets of boots bindings and skis. Any advice?
personally I would use old gear, especially boots. I know people use new stuff but it cant be good to fully submerge boots in water
if your skis have any sort of missing edge or even an edge crack you risk getting your skis waterlogged. if you have an old set of liners, maybe throw those in your regular shell. i don't see the water being able to damage the plastic but it's the liners you wanna worry about. bindings i wouldn't worry about since they're all solid metal and plastic.
I feel like if you're scared of your park skis getting hurt on a water ramp you're doing it wrong.
If you got old boots it might not be a bad idea to rock them. Honestly if you got decent old skis and you're concerned use those.
All that really matters is you have a something that feels alright on your feet and will get you off the takeoff.
You kind of want an old pair of skis, the base is going to get raped by the plastic carpet and they snap realy easily when you land in water, specially if they're wide. Also the water kind of goes in the wood of your skis and fuck them up.
Doesn't realy matter for boots, they're made of plastic and your liner's kind of always soaked up after a day skiing anyway.
Bindings realy come off easier on the take off of water ramps jumps becose they have more pop and a smaller transtion than they jumps you'll have in snow park. Depends on your weight and the tricks you'll work on, but you'll maybe want a higher din than what you usualy use. I haven't notice water damaging my bindings.
I've always wondered, when you're hitting water ramps, are your boot liners just constantly soaked?

yeah, you're landing in a pool of water. so unless you dry them after every hit, you are going to be in a heavy wet boot
also OP the bindings should be OK as long as you dry them off after with a towel. dont like let them sit with water on for months after camp, because that's how they rust out
don't use new skis, as stated they will snap easily. people with often add an extra layer of fiberglass onto the top sheets for strength. duller edges are a good thing too. you can put duck tape on your goggle straps where the earflaps would go to stop you from blowing out your eardrum if you land sideways. getting a wet suit would be a good idea. depending on the time of year it can get pretty cold going in and out of the pool so much. good to have all your skin covered too.
ramps fuck equipment. The spring in bindings rust, skis snap and liners on the boots get haggard.
You dont need nice equipment on ramps. Straight skis are fine unless you plan on hitting them switch.
If the pool is airated it should all be good.
from my experience the boots actually come out fine, you are supposed to be able to wash your liners anyways so they can get wet, and i dont think using new boots would have any effect. If you are going to camp i would say remember to bring gloves especially if you want to learn grabs (mtn bike gloves work best). Also use old skis, mine snapped when they hit the water. A shorty wetsuit is a good idea too and you will never get cold with one on. The mouthguard they make you wear is pretty unneeded also unless you plan on hitting the side of the pool, just throw that in your back pocket. Water ramps are a blast, just dont be a pussy and be scared of the in run because you wont fall unless you are really bad and the water is actually surprisingly soft. Bring weed too because you can make bank off selling pre rolled joints.
Ive done the water ramps on a few occasions and i would suggest some old boots only because they smell like shit when they are wet and the smell doesnt go away.
