I talked to someone on a chairlift at Snowbird today and he told me that Snowbird is for sale, and that it is rumored that Park City is buying it. I did some web searches and couldn't find any info. Anyone have any details? Or even links to rumors?
i hope not, i love PCMR but their management sucks ass tbh. bird seems like they got a pretty good thing going on over there right now as it is.
a bird/pc pass would literally make my dick melt off in euphoria, though.
Apparently it's confirmed that it's for sale, just not who will buy it.

I heard this about a week ago. I tried to find any information online but nothing came up. If anyone has any info like who is considering buying it (I hope not vail) then post it up.
I'm planning on buying it up. But seriously, interested to hear more about this.
By PC, you mean Powdr Corp.
And source other than someone you talked to on the chair?
ian cummings of powdr corp bought dick bass' house at the bird several years ago. this was seen as a sign of powdr corp eventually buying snowbird. now i am hearing that the bird has been entertaining offers from other parties as well. not sure if powdr backed down due to the pcmr fiasco or if the bird side backed away due to management issues at powdr. word is that the bass kids want their $$ and do not want to own a ski area. all info gathered from "they"!!!!!!
Does snowbird take trades? Perhaps for Jiberish?
NS as a collective could buy it pretty quick if they do
My mommy n daddy just bought the entire mountain for me. None of you guys are allowed to come

According to the guy I talked to, it is confirmed that Snowbird is for sale, and it is rumored that PCMR is buying it. That's all I know. I am also concerned that Vail might try to buy it, as is the guy I talked to.
pussyfooterBy PC, you mean Powdr Corp. And source other than someone you talked to on the chair?
If Powdr Corp owns PCMR then yeah. And no, I don't have any other sources. According to him, it's confirmed that Snowbird is for sale, but not who is going to buy it.

The point of the thread is OP asking for a source, so no, I don't think he has a source...

Dugskiothat happened to my home mountain
Wow... I dont know what to say.
unfortunately can't find the article right now but I did read that the Bass family wants to sell the resort, and this was within the last week or so.
I wonder why its up for sale. They just started to turn over a profit since snowbird was opened.

R.I.P. Echo MTN
Sadly to say, I would bet Vail makes a strong run to buy snowbird. Then proceed to ruin it. I hate Vail.

Sad to hear about Snowbird for sale issue, but if it's for the mountain's improvement(beautification)and tourist attraction then it could be fine.

That's what they did to brighton, mi. I mean, they park is a million times better. But I miss the place being a complete shithole. Now it's a packed parking lot of people with their audis and porches. Bunch of uppity fucks
The bidding already happened, and Vail outbid PCMR.

Sh4dowApparently it's confirmed that it's for sale, just not who will buy it. I love PC for fighting back against Vail, so if PC gets Bird I think I'd be okay with that. It would be lulz if PC loses PC but buys Snowbird, Vail steals a place for park kids while the people they stole it from get one of the best ski areas on the planet. So much Vail butthurt would be had. Unless they're too stupid to even realize how much better Snowbird is than anywhere else.
Ahhh you have no clue what you are talking about regarding Vails intentions though. Vail strives for a family market and family environment where they can draw a national crowd that will stay as overnight guests and hopefully buy a weekend pass or some such. They could give a shit about a resort that consists heavily of passholders at this point in their winter sports takeover.

yeah but snowbird will never be a family resort like breck, keystone or pc regardless of how many ritz carltons are built in lcc. the average joe from texas isnt going to buy a vacation to snowbird because it is known as a big, gnarly skiers mountain, unlike other vail resorts. they would do something like they have done at kirkwood; raise ticket prices, ban bagged lunches, $20 cheeseburgers, lodging prices skyrocket, etc. which ruins the vibe of a "skiers ountain" but doesnt attract a new family crowd because the terrain isnt changing.
The owners of Jackson Hole are looking at buying Snowbird too. Wanting to run a train on the best terrain in the US! Rumor is they want to put a peak to peak tram!

This ^^ it can happen everyone pitch in like 30 dollars and snowbird can be snowschoolers
whoa-derelets buy it
Let's do it everyone pitch on like 30 dollars and snowbird will be turned into snowschoolersbird
I'm serious, keep bumping this!!! If newschoolers as a whole invested (which is highly unlikely but a good idea) and bought it as a no profit organization that would be sick.
If Alta bought snowbird things would get interesting.
If Vail wins the lawsuit and gets Park City and thens buys Snowbird, the world is fucked. The Wasatch will become the new Summit County. Vail will have a huge say in future investments and projects in the area. Vail's expansion into Utah is bad for skiing.
As well, along the lines of everyone pitching in to try and buy it would never work. Bunch of people tried to do the same thing when Echo was for sale. No company is going to sell a resort to a conglomerate of ski bums and park rats. If everyone at Newschoolers got money together and outsourced a real estate company to buy it and with an agreement to run it a certain way, then it could work.

agreed. dont let PC become Scummit County.
but perhaps its a sign that PC is already located in Summit County, UT? :(
#inb4 vails buys them.........fuckin microsoft ski industry.

Agreed. The fact that different corporations own all the resorts in the Wasatch is what makes it good.... If Vail comes in and ruins everything, all the resorts will be the same, and I would like snowbird to NOT become canyons because canyons sucks.
Also, a PC/ Snowbird combo pass would be the single greatest thing in history
No sale, but the Bass family will not own the majority of the resort anymore.

"Cumming Family Partners with Bass Family in Snowbird
The Bass and Cumming Families announced today that they have entered into a partnership for the future operation and development of Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. The partnership will provide continuing direction and funding for major capital improvement projects, including a new restaurant and skier services building atop the Aerial Tram, a Four Diamond remodel initiative for the Cliff Lodge, and the future renovation of the Snowbird Center.
“This partnership will enable Snowbird to achieve more rapid growth and even greater benefits for our guests in keeping with our founding perspective and philosophy of providing a year-round destination mountain resort for the enhancement of body, mind, and spirit, with our ever present emphasis on environmental protection and sensitivity,” said Richard D. Bass.
In addition, Bass feels extremely fortunate to have the Cumming Family join in Snowbird’s future, owing to his inability to live and work at Snowbird’s altitude because of his advancing age.
“I look forward to working with the Bass Family and the team at Snowbird in providing world-class experiences on and off the mountain,” said Ian M. Cumming, an original investor in the Inn at Snowbird. Cumming owns a home at Snowbird and his family has a long history of skiing at Snowbird. “We are very happy to be involved at a place that has so many fond memories for our family,” said Cumming.
“Partnering with the Cumming Family ensures a bright future for Snowbird,” said Snowbird CEO and President Bob Bonar, one of the first employees when Snowbird opened in 1971. “Snowbird’s commitment to providing exceptional skiing and year-round hospitality, entertainment, and guest service will only greatly increase as we go forward.”
Snowbird’s current management team, led by Bob Bonar, Tom Jones and Jerry Giles, will remain in place. The partnership is between the Bass and Cumming Families and does not involve Powdr Corp. Mr. Cumming will own a majority share of Snowbird. Dick Bass will remain as Chairman of the Board."
