all the comps ive seen this year, noone wins unless they throw a switch 10 with a mute or tail or they dont win. anyone else getting sick of switch 10s?

yeah, i'm tired of 10's. Comps don't kill creativity. You can still be creative, but not much in comps, just outside of them filming and stuff.

thats fucking bull shit. Contests don't limit creativity. People that don't do contests and claim they hinder progression are simply not consistant enough skiers to win contests. These same guys that are all throwing the same tricks in contests ONE NIGHT of the winter, go out and film creative, and unique movie segments the rest of the six months of the year season.

You can hike a jump or a rail all day and night till you get your trick done perfect, but when the pressure is on and there is a 10g check dangling in front of your nose, you'd better put every single one of your cab 10s down perfect cause you don't get a second chance.

I'll admit I don't really watch comps much, but I was takin a day off today and the US open thing was on NBC... I was shocked they were all basically doing the same trick in the Big Air - Switch 10. Is that what the sport's come down to now, everyone doing the same fuckin trick? I thought this was supposed to be about individual style and doing new stuff. The aerials they had on afterwards had more variety in them.

yeah seriously after watching the us open today I was pretty disappointed. It was basically a switch ten comp with mutes or tails. The aerilasts after us were doing more different tricks. switch tens are cool to watch but boring as hell if thats all thats giong to win.

the judges should make it so if you keep doing the same trick it becomes reduced in points - like in tony hawk pro skater or one of those games. cause its kinda stupid when everyone is throwing cab 10s every single time. at least tj mixed it up a little

Tanner is consistant. Jon Is consistant.

When you win or podium in every major contest you enter for over three season, and at the same time film ground breaking movie segments in multiple films every season for multiple seasons, then you are a consistant skier. Not to mention you are getting paid.

Contests are not focused on creativity. That's why you don't see a fucking backflip being thrown in a super moto event, that's not what it is about. That's why some skiers prefer shooting films rather than comps. Want to see creativity? Watch a ski movie or a jam, you won't find it in a competition. They do what they need to win and it doesn't matter even if that is doing the same trick as everyone else.

Comps may make it so 'creativity' is limited, but thats ok. Because soon it won't be a switch 10, itll be a switch 14. Comps will drive the sport forwards. people can be creative the rest of the time. I am very for creativity but in a comp situation it doesnt matter. It will drive the sport, and the creativity will come in other aspects and showcases of the sport.

Being out there skiing every day, good or bad, just playing around with friends, with no contests or filming- that is the real spirit of skiing for me. that is why i started skiing, and if i lose those moments that is what will make me stop skiing.

I guess it's tough to really say who's the better skier here. We've got comp skiers and then there's the other kids, who film and are recognized for other things. I would never be caught dead saying Eric Pollard isn't a consistent skier. You see, the term 'consistency' applies here in terms of competition (a timed, judged, pressure oriented situation). Skiers like Pollard just don't ski as well in those types of situations whereas Jon and Dumont can do it with their eyes closed. Creativity can be achieved in both situations.

jibtech im not saying that comps arent creative and that the skiiers who do them arent good. im just saying that when everyone does the same exact trick because they know thats all they can throw to win it, it gets lame and although switch 10 mutes are nuts, it just gets old when u see it like 6 times in a row.
