First flip

so i am able to do front flips, back flips and a misty 360 on a trampoline, and i wanted to try a flip on snow. i tend to lay out my backflips on a trampoline but my front flips and everything else i can whip around pretty fast. i don't which flip i should try on skis first, any suggestions and/or tips would be really appreciated.

the only reason I'm a little sketched out about doing a backflip I because I for some reason lay them out and don't tuck on a trampoline. would doing a front flip off the knuckle of a jump be an okay idea or would that be harder than doing it off a cat track that drops off?

Front flips off the knuckle are really easy, probably easier than off a kicker. I'd say they are easier than backies at first, but once you learn both you can control the backflip rotation so much more easily. And backies are also a foundation of a lot more tricks than frontflips and you'll just find yourself doing them way more, because of how fun they are.

If u do a back flip first definitely try to tuck. I did one like I would do it on my trampoline and layed it out too much, I saw the tails of of my skis which made me hesitate for a split second. I ended up catching my tips and breaking my collar bone. So practice doing backflips on ur tramp where u tuck ur knees a little bit more and u should be fine.

The big mistake I have seen everyone make, is when they lay out their backflip too much and they end up hitting their helmet/neck with tails of their skis. Here is a good video to help you out with backflips. Just do them in the pow first though because my friend tried his first backflip on a park jump and broke his collarbone

mmk, so I have tried a lot of flips and am yet to land one. I have tried misty 5, bio 7, backflip, cork 3 and 5 and a lincoln loop cork 3's and 5 were by far the easiest to send for because you can start with a hand drag and it feels super natural, I have always hated backflips on tramp, and it was no different on skis, I pretty much landed one, but it feels funky for the first few throws. rodeo 5 is pretty easy, misty 5 is really not painful to mess up, but it is a weird feeling first flip. Bio 7 is not a good idea, trust me... So my list of easiest to do

OP-- def better to overrotate your first backy than to underrotate so POP and bring it around. first try ever i hottubbed and bounced to my feet, second try stuck it. backies are easiest flip by far IMO and overrotating isnt a bad fall most of the time

if youre going to poke fun at least explain what youre poking fun at. OP an off axis front flip with a 3 is a misty 7. misty 3's existence is up for debate but it is/would be a weird off axis front flip. just FYI

Misty 3 doesn't exist, it's just a misty 7 since the front flip counts as 360 degrees of rotation in addition to the actual 360

You could be doing misty 3's as they do actually exist. They're like weird looking front flips in the same way flat 3's often look like weird looking back flips. It's basically a flat 3 in reverse.

like I said earlier I will next time I get a chance, but currently, my friend's trampoline is covered in snow and I'm at boarding school. Also, this thread seems to have turned into more of an argument over whether or not a misty 3 exists, rather than the original tips and suggestions for my first flip on skis I should try. I don't mind talking about that subject, but I'm heading out to Okemo this weekend and I would like as much advice before I attempt a flip. I think if I will try one it will be either a front flip off a knuckle or a backy of a medium size kicker.

no, don't let these tards confuse you. a misty 7 is a front flip with a 3 (put basically. technically it "has to" be off axis, as in the flip shouldnt be straight up and down, and some will call it a front full, the aerials name for it, if it's straight up and down. but that's splitting hairs)-- imagine running up to a table, dropping your right shoulder towards your left hip and rolling over the table that way. that's a misty 7

if you dont understand why that makes sense, throw your phone up in the air and have it do a flip with a 360. now throw the flip flatter and flatter until it's just doing a 7. that will illustrate that the whole time, it was a 720* rotation going on, just different kinds. make sense?

i agree though that it's not the easiest thing to throw on skis because it goes against the momentum of the jump youre taking off of. for this reason backies and lincolns and underflips etc are much easier on skis IMO

i always suggest backy, assuming youre comfy with them on tramp and stuff and you understand them. they seem scarier, i know-- i tried lincolns/rodeos first cause i was scared of backies-- but theyre much easier and your chances of putting it to your feet is very very high as long as you commit, pop, and know what youre doing

if not, id say prob lincoln. pretty low consequence flip. fronts are tough man, you cant spot your landing early and you have to push against the momentum of the jump to initiate the flip, unlike backies which are super natural

for people's first 360s i usually recommend the biggest jump theyre comfortable on

backflips i think it's less important how big it is and more just finding a nice poppy jump with a good landing that youre comfy on. nice and steep is ideal

i like to stare at my skis the whole time, dropin to landing, looking at nothing else but the graphic on my ski, it helps get over the fear of jumping. just lay it out and stare at ur skis. sling ur head back once half way up the lip for extra pop. ( this will help u land) make sure u dont pop hard or u will catch your tips on the lip. but remeber to let the landing come to u. dont even set cuz it just comes naturally.

Backflip for sure, broad but good advice (I think) is do a tuck or a lay not a half tuck with a pushed chest and slung head. This will throw off momentum and cause bad habits if you land it.

what was going to be my last run of the day and run i was gonna try a backie happened to hyperextend my knee on one of okemos many fucked up rails. i mustve gotten caught up on like 10 rails there but either way i probably cant try attempt one for a solid 4 weeks which blows.

pick a decent jump nothin pussy small, pop like a tramp and send ur head back as fast as you can, if u layout on tramp...nothing will go wrong. ull b seeing that landing early and rip another on the next jump send it

haha nah they wouldn't have helped, my skis got caught on a rail in pretty much the only possible way they couldn't eject. it was a 270 out gone wrong my tip got caught underneath the pole supporting the rail and my knee got hella fucked up. i'm not gonna lie though, i would kill for a pair of full tilts.
