Which university to choose (exchange student from Britain)?

I'm looking at coming to the USA for an exchange year 2017/18. I am ideally looking for the best university for research and of course the best for skiing! I am studying environmental science with a particular interest in how climate change is affecting the snow-sports industry and how we can make the industry more sustainable. As for skiing, i'd say i'm an advanced skier with a particular interest in back country, touring and free ride.

Suggestions so far have included WWU, Montana State, Colorado Mesa, Westminster College & Utah State. Unfortunately, Boulder and Uni of Utah don't offer exchanges.

Any help would be amaaazing, its really hard to get a feel for the different places being in the UK!

I'd recommend Montana State or WWU for research options. I don't think Westminster has many, and I can't comment on Colorado Mesa or Utah State.

Mesa is in Grand Junction which is kind of a wasteland, and a few hours from good skiing. For other Colorado schools close to skiing look at cmc and western state.

I came from the uk ten years ago to western state on an exchange and i stayed. Wonderful decision.

Which UK university are you at? I went from Nottingham to Oregon State for a semester last year. Was only there September-December (I basically just wanted to see college football) but got to shred Bachelor opening day and Hood. There was a sick group out there called Core freeride who are the equivalent of a UK snowsports club. Might not be as close to resorts as Uni of Utah/Colorado etc but was a sick place to go and you could easily shred if you wanted to.

University of Nevada, Reno.

Right next to a bunch of mountains in the Tahoe region. Solid research school as well.
