Types of Parks?

I have heard this a lot from people who have been skiing a few of my home mountains. They say that the parks that the crew set up are "for snowboarders".

Their defense is that all of the park crew are snowboarders, so they don't optimise the parks for skiers. Honestly I don't have a problem with the park.

Have you guys ever heard this before?

I am one of the complainers. All it means is there are to many pole jam type features or features that are totally ollie on.

This racism against skiers has always been around. I just suck it up because what are snowboard features? At my mountain they are tiny little rainbow rails stuck into the ground with no jump onto them. They are just pointless.

the only things that are really hard to hit on skis are pole jams and shit. anything they can boardslide we can hit too. snowboarders love 50ing pole jams and 3ing off.

Hopefully the park rangers at my mountain are skiers that ski park since over 15 years.... Everything is huge and it's rare that I see a good snowboarder hahahah ! Every features are set for skiers :)

coming from a mountain where the park crew is usually snowboarders I'm way more thankful for it, it forced me to learn how to do urban on rails rather then straddling them

I'm not really a fan of having the lip be the same height as the rails unless its a beginner feature, it should at least be a few inches lower

Ha. I think it's just because snowboarders don't race and the parks are the only place good snowboarders go. At the same time, there are way too many ski racers.

Last time I went to Dagmar with one slope open there were only 3 skiers and plenty of annoying snowboarders.

Idk, generally it's just people bitching just to bitch IMO. I try and design stuff that works for everyone.

I mean hell, I remember 6 or 7 years ago when people were bitching about "snowboard style" features.

I do agree about polejams being a more snowboard oriented feature. If they have a takeoff or are mellow they can still be pretty fun for skiers.



I set this up last summer and it got hit by more skiers than boarders.

Idk. There are definitely style differences in the way some places set things up. Some have lower, flatter takeoffs, some are more like jumps. For the most part mountains build stuff for everyone whether there are more boarders or skiers on the crew.

I think the "damn snowboard crew " or "damn skier crew" deal gets subbed in when people don't like the way a certain feature is setup.

Regardless it's been too many years on this "issue". Maybe in 2017 we can drop it.

I think that snowboarders do dominate the parkbuilding scene, but it seems to me like they can build flowy parks like no one else

I think the real difference between park styles is creative parks that are flowy with options for doing weird shit, and parks that just have individual isolated traditional features.

I like pole jams though cause they're fun to drift into at high speeds. But my mountain built a sick ass closeout, but did that dumb shit where they put knobs on the end. It would have been a super sick rail had they not done that. I've seen 5 people hit it.

Not that bad. They're welded to a bar so they're all linear.

Also it's not like they built to be the main rail in their park. I think they built it for the 32 setup a couple years ago.
Not even sure if they use it in the regular park setup. I don't ride loon anymore really.

Might go up for the ns dealio

Although I just worked 18 out of the last 19 days. Today and yesterday were 14 hour days, the idea of taking a break and driving to NH is nice, but that's probably just a dream

There is a flat box in our park that is sick but park crew had to ruin it. They put a corrugated tube on the jump to the rail to ride on.

I'm a skier, will always be a skier but I'm snaked way more by skiers and in my experience there's way more annoying skiers than there is snowboarders. Maybe if we stopped hating on snowboarders online there wouldn't be this rediculous beef that seems to only come from skiers

PS, I comment the same things on snowboard stuff about skiers, telling those gaper children they're stupid as well.

I snowboard, I've skied for far longer, and I see gaper skiers/boarders in the park all day errrday.

My point had nothing to do with snowboard slalom being relevant, but more that you don't really know what's going on. And once again, lol, at the thought that skiers don't race skier cross.

It goes both ways to an extent, but it's usually only serious with the gapers. Other people make fun of the other or both, but more jokingly. When I read transworld, it's the gapers that can only falling leaf on a snowboard ripping on skiers, and the same kind of thing in here.

Idk, I guess after reading the same things 1,643 times it started to feel a little bit old to me.

i never commented on snowboarding as a whole, and i usually ski with snowboarders. but every snowboarder i ski with agrees that the sbx kids are annoying as shit. bombing down our 200 foot vertical hill in their sick tuck position, and cutting everybody to sidejump every feature. the only thing enjoy about them is seeing them boost an 8 foot stepdown with no speed check .

I hate when people whine about a park being a skier or snowboarder park. That vertical pole rail that borty posted is the first rail that I've seen that I can't see a skier hitting it. There are some skiers that love polejams. Gotta have variety and a majority of the time snowboarders are more creative
