When did you realize you loved skiing?

when did you realize you loved skiing? when was that first moment that you really knew that this was your favorite thing in the world to do?

i was skiing with my dad in vail when i was 8 years old. i had been on skis for 6 years at that point so knew i liked it already but it had just snowed 2 feet the night before. we got first tracks on north star and had face shots all the way down. it was the most fun id ever had with my dad or anyone for that matter and i just knew from that moment on that skiing was all that i wanted to do because that where i was always reliably more happy than anywhere else.

Like 2 years I ago I snowboarded and sucked, but I was really interested in trying skis so I tried my dads skis and really enjoyed it I could ski the greens pretty easily but on high traffic black diamonds I was really freaked out since I wasn't comfortable. So I thought I would stick with boarding until the fall I was watching summer ski edits and urban shots and it looked so much more fun/ cooler imo. So I bought skis and built a small drop in and a few really bad rails that were like 2 inches off the ground. skiing in my backyard and the neighborhood hill as I was completely learning I realized how much fun it is it definitely get's hard but even then it's still fun. sorry for the long post lol.

Met the deep powder when I was 14. From then on I knew I will love this sport more rather than any other choices.

When I was a freshman in college at UMD and I'd waste away my hockey season tickets beause I'd just want to stay at Spirit Mt and keep skiing night park on Friday/Saturday nights instead of going to UMD games which I always huge into growing up

in all seriousness, i had been skiing a couple times a year since i was pretty young before i switched to snowboarding at 12. snowboarded for a year or two but never really got good at it. when i was about 14 my family took a trip down to banff to visit family who ski. i decided to take my skis because i could not have handled snowboarding banff. long story short i fell in love, could not get enough of it. when i got home from my trip, i watched tom wallisch youtube videos all night and ordered my first pair of twin tips. ive been addicted ever since, now that i have a torn acl and wont ski all season my love for the sport just grew even more.

Bombing through the powder when I was 6. Smiling with the wind in my face, snow flying up everywhere. The feeling of "wow, this is awesome". Then I caught both tips and disappeared into the powdery abyss. I emerged without a smile, possibly some tears, but once I warmed up and got some hot chocolate I went back to that feeling of "wow, that was awesome".

That feeling of freedom I couldn't get anywhere else. Something about it was amazing. Even when I was horrible at it, even when I go out now and am horrible at it. I love it.

When I was 11 my parents took me to Austria to see family friends who run a hotel at a resort, it snowed 2 metres in two days and the pow was fucking amazing. SInce i'm from Australia it was so much better than anything i had ever skied before

It's weird, because I used to not like skiing because I got scared of steepness and speed. Then I joined this club a little over 3 years ago, I went up every weekend with them, and I was pushed to try harder stuff. Then my best friend came along and got me interested in park, and now I'm here. Somewhere along the way, it just clicked.

Long post, be prepared. Been skiing my entire life, like literally since I've been able to walk. It was always fun but I don't think I truly fell in love until I was about 13. The next year I quit the local race team I was on so I could focus more on just skiing park because that was when I was really enjoying myself. From that point on it was all skiing all my life. My friends from school pretty much always knew that once winter came around they probably weren't going to see me anymore and I didn't care because skiing introduced me to so many other great people who I now consider some of the closest people in my life. I now plan a lot of my life around skiing. Currently going to school for general management which would lead to my ultimate goal of Ski Area Manager. Skiing really is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Only thing that keeps me 100 percent happy and no matter how tough it gets it's always worth the struggle. I know this is all pretty cliche and a lot of people have already said similar things, but skiing really is my life and I just wanted everyone to get the whole story.

Grew up doing seasons. When my brother and I lived up on the hill and we had to ski to get to school. At 9am when school started we would do that classic "no fucking way" look and continue shredding on bluebird days. Every day after that first season has been a bliss

When I was 15 I got into skiing park.

My dad and I built this ridiculous rail and I would hike it for hours in my front yard.

As sketchy and shitty as it was it was the best feeling ever, and my head was always clear.

Honestly I used to have a little crappy snowboard I would ride down the small hill near my house. The first time I went to a mountain, I was on skis and my 3rd run a snowboarder just took me out. That's when I knew that skiing was more my thing haha

Pretty much right when I got out of the initial learning period, I was instantly hooked (so around 7 or 8). Skiing is a bitch to learn, and I think that's why a lot of people don't do it. I used to play a lot of other sports, but now I go to a prep school where every sport is ridiculous, so I've pretty much turned my attention to skiing.

I've cross country skiied since I was 2 years old, I used to participate in the Canadian Ski Marathon as well. I love crosscountry skiing but I'd say that the first time I knew skiing was my favourite was probably the first time I put on downhill skis during a school trip in grade 4 or something. I was already pretty good because I had all the expierience from cross country so it felt very natural.

Since then I've been focusing on park while still retaining that natural free feeling that I get from even hitting a groomed run. I have lived near Ottawa all my life and have never had money to go places to expierience true powder but even skiing on my tiny local hill with a 15 or so feature park gives me the greatest feeling in the world.

First ski trip was in Gr. 4. Never skiied before that, but they made us watch videos about skiing in class before the trip. I was stoked before I could even comprehend what stoke was. Basically skiied only on school trips since because parents were too poor/not interested in taking me to the local hills.

Couple of years ago, after I bought my first car, I decided to just drive up to the hill because I was bored on a Sunday. Rented skis, and realized that now I can go whenever I wanted and had the money to do so. That was when I truly fell in love with the sport. Bought my first pair of used race skis, a couple of years ago, and now just yesterday bought my first pair of brand new skis and bindings.

So stoked for this season! :0

Always loved it. 4 years ago I got hurt pretty bad in gymnastics and wasn't able to compete at the same level anymore so I started to ski more. Then I met my best friend, she snowboarded and our first season riding together it all just made sense. Before I would ski like 10 times a winter, that season we got in 70ish days. Every day after school we'd pack up my car and head out to the hill. Well, we actually never unpacked anything except for our boots. It was crazy. Our dinners consisted of red bull and splitting an order of french fries every day(it's all we could afford because lodge prices). We'd do our homework in the lodge, write essays on our phones on the lift. We made it work haha. It was so great. Those were the days.
