Fear of injury:other sports

So I just started park skiing this year and I have gotten pretty good. I play ultimate frisbee and where I live it's actually serious. I'm really good at ultimate and like it but I really like skiing. Once I get going I try flips and spins onto rails but it's hard at first because I'm scared I will get hurt for ultimate or just plain hurt which is the worst. I haven't had a problom with this much but I'm actually scared about getting hurt and it doesn't stop me from going hard in the park but it worrys me. Does anybody else get scared about injuring them selfs for sports or has anybody injured themselves and had to pay for it when ski seasons over.

Sure, but it's the other way around. Getting injured in October is devastating. Getting injured in June ain't so bad.

My friend blew his acl while were biking up a pretty steep hill. Bikes can fuck you up I guess. Or he's just fragile.

I recently decided to stop skiing. It was for the fear of getting hurt, not for another sport though. I suffer pretty badly from Post Concussion Syndrome and my last concussion, number 5, pretty much ruined my life. There's a pretty good chance I'll recover from this one, but if I get another I won't.

Make skiing your top priority, so you don't have that mindset that you can't get hurt "for other sports". I used to feel the same way with baseball in the spring, but honestly skiing is more important to me so I'd rather progress and take the risks.

Unless your season is right after ski season you should be fine. Injuries heal faster then you think. Like my brother broke 7 of the bones in his back( not the cord just the bones) and broke thoes two bones in his arm in the fall, and was back skiing and playing football that winter and spring
but I have the same problem as you, I play football and I try to be pretty serious about it and I train all year so when I go skiing it's always in the back of my head like "don't fuck this up or you can't play next year"

Flipping, and spinning on to rails. I can't flip onto rails lol I cant even flip off. I tried once and ate shit.

i just got injured and i'm kinda stoked cause it's end of the season. I figure I get injured once or twice every year, and it's best when it's not during ski season

i just busted my quad playing soccer but what ever. Just like any other injury, rest up and be patient. i'm not going to hold back in any sport i play.

Just do a lot of drugs and crank up gangsta rap!

But really try to go in steps. You don't have to go right from the beginning to expert in park skiing. Hit some smaller features, get your confidence up then progress to bigger features. When trying new tricks learn them on smaller features then bring them up to medium, then large features. That 270 on might be scary to learn on a waist high 30' long down tube, but maybe there's a smaller 12' down rail 1' off the ground you can learn it on.

As you get better you gain confidence and muscle memory. some of the tricks you think are hard now will be like 50-50ing a dancefloor as you get better. There will always be tricks that challenge and or scare you, but you can progress pretty far without ever doing anything wildly risky.

His seat was probably too high and he had to extend his legs to far to push down On the pedals. He didn't fall or anything, just heard a pop when he pushed down.

i missed a season doing my acl playing rugby, which sucked. But it's something you just have to expect, there's not a lot you can do about it, just go out a play/ski hard.

jeeze. i'm gonna assume it was partially torn before hand, because to tear it riding a bike you'd need like the perfect combo of force and an awkward angle

Good topic.

My main sport is kiteboarding, and unless you're going huge, most falls are pretty tame because you're on the water. You can tear an ACL or something if you land wrong, but for an extreme sport, I've had the least injuries doing it.

Going skiing is right in the middle of kiteboarding season where I live now (Florida, the windy season is Fall through Spring), so I always pray to jesus I don't fall and ruin myself for the rest of the kite season. So I don't ski park at all. Skiing big mountain is "safe enough" for me where you can still have fun.

But at the same time, I love skiing, and when my season was flipped last year (when I was living in Oregon), I was soooo careful kiteboarding those last few months before winter, because I didn't want to ruin my ski season.

Basically it's a viscous cycle of trying not to get hurt for the next season's sport :P

Skiing is my main sport. I quit every other "regular" sport (soccer, crew, running) to focus on skiing. I still bike in the summer, but my main sports focus is skiing.

i have the opposite fear. fall of 2013 i was playing soccer and ultimate to get in shape for ski season, until someone ran into me during an ultimate game and blew my knee and i couldn't ski that season. know i just ski and work out because if i'm going to get injured it might as well be skiing.

I broke my collarbone on the last day this year which ended my spring soccer season, but i am actually enjoying the relaxed speed of my life for this month. Im really enjoying the fact that without soccer my life is so much easier.

This was pretty much my first year of park skiing and I can already do off axes spins/flips,270 on,almost 450 on, and super fed.(Some claim but some I have on video) I sometimes have the idea of getting hurt skiing carrying over to the off season and ultimate season but it doesn't effect how I preform skiing. You should play a game of ultimate and once you get ok at throwing you will think it s a lot of fun.
