Go Pros for filming

Hey guys,

I am currently filming with a d5100, 8mm rokinon fisheye, cam caddie, and a takstar shotgun mic. I originally got this setup for filming skateboarding and it has served me pretty well. However now that I am getting more into filming skiing I need some advice. Though I don't have the most expensive setup, I baby my camera. Because of this when its snowing I cant film. Also because of its large size I cant really bring it onto the mountain for casual filming. This means that I have to go into the lodge and deliberately film for a while and I can't do anything on the way to the lift because I am carrying a camera. This is very annoying as I would like to film some casual clips with a decent quality (not phone), and little to no setup per shot. So my question is: will a gopro satisfy my needs.

tl;dr will a go pro be good for casual filming, but stilol give decent results.

Have you considered using an avocado? Guacamole Sundays turned out pretty sweet.

Set up a proper camera rig for a go pro and you'll be fine. I think i have a photo of mine on my instagram

I remember back in the summer, the berrics on their IG feed had HDV-type gopro housing apparatus that was dope. fits the newer models like the 3+ plus and 4. cant find a link for it but im sure someone knows what im talking about. the footage was really dope, too.

I think I know what you're talking about, but it was just a joke housing (didn't actually do anything)

If you just want to make edits to show to your friends, then a gopro is fine. Making real edits generally requires a real camera (not always the case, but it would have to have exemplary skiing or funny people [og totallytrevor]). Such is the life of a real filmer, you dont exactly get to ski much when you're getting shots.

In my opinion, GoPros are only good for what they are made for, POV/cool angles in strange places.

They have a weird effect to them where they focus on everything and nothing at the same time, resulting in a weird sort of look on screen. For filming, I really think it looks awful and unprofessional. BUT for POV type stuff, it's great
