SamtheEagleask them where in the student handbook it says you have to have a certain length hair. If it does say it somewhere then cave. If it does not then tell them they do not have legal grounds for detention. You could also sue over 1st amendment rights saying it is a form of expression and since it isnt damaging a public school should have no right to violate it (public schools can violate most of your rights but you could have an argument for this).
