Has your dog ever jumped out of the car?

I was driving 4 days ago, my dog was with my dad in the passengers seat and I stuck her head out of the window too far and lost balance, something she's never done out of the hundred times she's been in the car. We were going about 25/30 miles an hour and she fell on her left hind leg. She doesn't put any pressure on it and we've been giving her medication. She's 1 year old and my dad says she didn't break anything and will get better but I think her leg is at least sprained or fractured. Would you say she'll be fine or should I take her to a vet?

Sparknotes: dog jumped out of the window, seems to be healing. Is a vet mandatory?

no but it has jumped off of the 4th story of a parking garage. Luckily he landed in the bushes and was left with only a couple scratches. I'm being completely serious. This actually happened.

If it's been 4 days and she still won't put any weight on it, I would take her to a veterinarian.

I already said it above but I'll say it again. My dog jumped off of the 4th story of a parking garage in Boston. Luckily he landed in some bushes and escaped with only a few scratches.

Our dog jumped out of our truck once. He ended up being fine (just bruises and small cuts) but we took him to the vet just to be sure.

My friends dog jumped out of the bed of a truck while he was leashed in, he ended up catching his front right leg on the leash and hanging over the side at the shoulder and it damaged some nerves so bad that he started chewing on his leg a couple days later. They had to amputate and now he's got 3 legs but happy as ever. Pretty sad, but at least he's got a good life still.

I will never understand why people think it is safe to leave their dog in the bed of a truck while driving even while leashed.

My miniature pinscher was in the back seat of my truck and took a running start and jumped out of the window while I was doing about 30mph.

Not the smartest dog in the world.

I was driving up my gravel drive way, only going about 5 mph, and my little dog saw a chipmunk and bolted out the window. Poor chipmunk was scared shitless. He had no idea where the dog came from.

I have a cocker spaniel and a schnauzer, the cocker hopped out of the car. She put weight on it yesterday and is walking on it today but were gonna take her to the vet on Monday anyway. Frenchy it sounds like you've taught your dog well +k

Who couldn't love a puppy like this?


These aren't of my Vizsla, but they are super smart dogs. Need a lot of attention, but worth it.

Our current is a little smarter than our dog who jumped out the window. Our first one would paw at the window until we put it down. It didn't matter what the temperature was, it could be -5 and snowing, and she would stick her head out. Never jumped out though.

I would take your dog to the vet man. Any person falling out at 25-30mph can get fucked up pretty bad. I dont know how you guys feel about your dogs...but in our family they are just like any other person. I honestly love them more than my brother and sister since we argue 24/7. Definitely take them and get his leg checked out

No they haven't done anything stupid yet thank god.

But my year old black lab/border collie wouldn't hesitate to jump out the window i bet. I always just open it enough for her to get her head out then lock the windows.

No offense but I think it's pretty shitty of you/your dad to make the dog wait 4 days. If she's not putting weight on it (especially after all this time) it may be broken, or at the very least it's obviously hurting her. Often when a dog isn't putting any weight on the leg at all it is broken. Get it checked out and taken care of properly - trust me, I know paying for vet care sucks but it's part of responsible pet ownership. To answer op's question, no my dog hasn't ever done that, but if she did I'd definitely take her straight to the vet even if she seemed totally fine. Peace of mind is worth paying an exam fee!

Yeah it's super shitty but we're out of town til then, both of our dogs are with us because were driving. She was jogging around on it and will jump up on to the bean bag/ go upstairs. (It's not fair to say this because dogs with 3 legs can do this too) We also look at them as part of the family it sucks that she had to jump out at the time she did.

One of my german sheppard dogs jumped out of our truck window on a corner, she dislocated her hip and tore muscles, she couldn,t put pressure on it for 2 weeks, that was with the vets prescribed medicine and being well rested.

Go see the vet, it takes no time at all, and its good peace of mind.

So my dad's truck has a window that opens to the bed and there was a lid on the bed of the truck. We opened the back window and my dog jumped out and slid off the lid of the back of the truck (Ford F-150). We were going pretty fast but when he fell off he landed and skidded on his ass so he only tore up two of the pads on his paws and had some nasty scrapes.

Neighbours dog fell out when he was going 90kph. Luckily the ditch was close enough to the side of the road and steep enough for some tranny finding and the dog was fine

Me and my friends were towing a sled behind a quad in may and my dog though she would be able to jump the sled when i wiped my friend around... She couldn't, got leg swept and now she can't put pressure on her back leg but continues to run on it than limps after running
