YouTube Live with Pro Skiers / Have NS'ers tweet questions

So I recently tuned into a YouTube "live" event that I was actually thoroughly entertained by. It was a writer (Smitty) over at BarstoolSports.com talking about his new full-time gig. Readers of the site were encouraged to tweet questions at him to answer live.

It was just him sitting in his apartment, answering the viewers' questions, while someone else in his apartment fielded all the questions on Twitter.

Basically it worked like this:

-The YouTube live player was embedded on a page on BarstoolSports.com.
-Underneath it there was some writing that said something along the lines of "Tweet @SmittyBarstool and #BSPhilly to ask Smitty a question."

I remember him saying something about how it was originally intended to be like 10 or 15 minutes long and it ended up being about an hour because there were so many questions being tweeted at him. (I got my question answered.)

I think you probably know where this is going by now.

Back in the day there was NS radio and I believe it was hosted by Mike Rogge. NS Radio doesn't run anymore, but maybe this would be an awesome replacement?

Has this ever been tried by NS before?

I think if NS did this basically the same way as Barstool (embed the YouTube live player on NS, have NS'ers tweet at the pro skier and use a hashtag), it would work really well. Barstool is a big site, but so are we. I think organizing for skiers like Henrik Harlaut, Tom Wallisch, etc. to do this could really be a huge hit.

-The pro skier gets Twitter followers and exposure (obviously)
-NS'ers get questions answered live
-NS gets hits to the site

Win, win, win?

I hope I didn't write all that out just to have someone say this has already been tried before, haha.

This is a pretty good idea, it brings expose and interaction within the community. Would there be a filter on questions though?

If it's only the pro reading twitter and finding the questions to answer, there would technically be no filter.

However, if a friend of them is next to them finding the good questions and then asking them, I guess that's technically a filter.

We've actually already done this a bunch of times where there was a live chat on Newschoolers below the player and people could communicate with them there. Shit, we started doing this back in like 2007.

Anyway, its easy to do and yes I agree we should do it more.

Awesome. Looks like I'll need three things.

1. Setup/Implementation
-As far as I'm aware, Newschoolers doesn't have a YouTube profile. We need one made, and then we need to enable live events, which can be done here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853700?hl=en

-We'd then need to find a place on NS for the embedded live video to go. The livestream page could work, but I don't want there to be confusion with a livechat underneath. Same goes for the forums. Perhaps it could go on a page with nothing but the embedded video?

-We'd then need to determine the exact process of how we want this to work with Twitter. This is where we'd determine the hashtag we'd want to use.

2. The Pro Skier
-I need to be in touch with the skier via e-mail, so I can layout what it is we're trying to do, and get an agreement with them.

3. Marketing
-We would need to start marketing the Q&A probably a week before just to let people know it's coming, and then really push it the day of.

In a perfect world, I'd like to see posts on all NS social profiles, as well as the social profiles that the skier is sponsored by. If we got someone like Tom Wallisch, for instance, I'd want Line, The North Face, etc. to be promoting this. And to top if off, it would be crucial for the skier to be promoting it on their social profiles as well.

NS countdown clock would be most excellent.

We do have a YouTube Account. I think that Matt K has access, if not I'll set this up.
