Except what's been made obvious from this month is than the more known members will get more votes regardless of whether they actually earned it or not

Mr.BishopThe Karma continues to accumulate when someone creates a really awesome thread that has a ton of longevity. That thread was totally money, and contributed a great deal to the running awesomeness of the site last month.
I can also confirm from the backend that the karma gained from that is what got him this nomination.
