BWalmerI understand, and I don't really have a problem with it cause they put out good content. But if you think about it, it's essentially their "job" to put out content...and generally their content is pushed harder than others via other social media outlets, which leads to move views and ratings, which leads to more karma. So they're basically get extra rewards for doing their "job" while others who aren't in any of the official programs that also put out good content get nothing. It's kinda the same reason that mods/admins/orange names aren't qualified for member of the month...cause they'll always win. Just something to consider.
You have to remember though, that putting out content for the site is part of the entire site experience. Purple names aren't arbitrarily chosen, they were chosen due to their performance.
I completely agree with you that Mousseau or myself shouldn't be eligible to win, as we get a completely unfair advantage... but the purple names are no different than anyone else just putting effort in.
In fact, you basically get a purple name by amassing content Karma. They're members, and any of you out there that want to start contributing can become part of that team too.
Additionally, this is the reason we put in the public vote to the system. We wanted to be sure that those who got in the top five all had a chance based on nuances of different things than just the Karma.
Finally - make sure that if someone rad really helps you out, you jump in there and give them a 10/10. That multiplier counts for way more than almost anything else.
