Preventing topsheet chipping with fiberglass?

The topsheet on the inside edge of each tail is mad chipping. Fiberglass strands, chunks pulled up.

Looks aren't the most important, but they're so deep that there's a possibility that at some point it will chip to the wood-- is there any way to protect it?

I know epoxy fills existing chips but what if I took a long 1-inch wide fiberglass strand and coated it with resin in the area to protect it from chipping to the wood? Just a crazy idea.

sidenote, this is something ski brands could definitely start adding to set themselves apart from competitors. Extra protection on the inside edges of topsheets.

If you're talking about a sort of mock off from surfboard fiberglass mesh with epoxy resin, that stuff doesn't bend.. and it's super heavy.

I got the idea because I have some left over from making a longboard (skate longboard not the surf longboard), and the board I made had some flex.

It's a super minuscule amount too.

Well I decided to try a little bit of it, used a small piece of fiberglass to patch a large chip.

I used a lot of resin without fiberglass on smaller chips, so we'll see how that works. If it works shitty, it'll just chip again, and I'll find a better solution. If it works pretty good, I'll make a thread on it, because I've never heard of using fiberglass to patch chips before.

Hmm well interesting, best of luck. Make sure you sand it down though and try to get it "flush"ish to the sheet. If you were to go 360* around though I bet it would get quite stiff and heavy fast if you used large amounts.

Fiberglass will flex fine. Skis have glass, they flex...

Surfboard glass is 6 and 4 oz usually, which is pretty light, and could easily be made flexible. Surfboards have flex, it's just hard to notice.

You could also consider adding chopped fiber or something to make some thick resin and fill it with that, but putting glass over it could help too. Sand and clean the area first for decent adhesion.
