Yea i think its best to sit up top for a couple minutes if you are goign to try something new, just visualize what you need to do and figure out what itll be like and all that. Then just think about something else and go and like the guy above said just think about it 2 seconds before the jump
When you're standing around pondering, they'll be a moment when you are seriously thinking nothing, and you just kinda feel and urge that tells you it's time, and you just start going. I've found this to be true for skiing and bmx.
Exactly, visualize the trick...but then again dont overthink it. Like someone else stated above, if it within your ability range, ie you probably wont get lost in the air and crash big, then you wont be too scared to do it. Otherwise just clear your mind, think about a song and get psyched, fuel on others' energy around you and suck it up and do it.

Just ask yourself 'what is stopping me from doing this?' The answer will either be skills or balls. If it is balls than just get over it and realize that you aint going to get shit done if you dont try. If your skills are stopping you from doing a certain trick than work on some easier ones first. Later.

Visualize it... If you have to think about it to visualize it, it's probably not time. It should feel natural. You'll know when it's time. You'll be standing above the jump, then visualize it once, and be like, 'okay, I can do this!' Then you'll go, without even thinking about it! It's such a cool feeling! Just relax... You're more apt to hurt yourself if you tense up! And pick a good day to try new things, ie; soft landing, good visibility, nice jump etc...
smoke mad blunts and put on some headphones, listen to music that gets you amped to ski, and then drink a heineken or two, not so many that you get drunk, just enough to losen up.
go out with a group of friends and have a good time, the key to progression is having fun.
also dont overthink things, the more you think about a trick or a line the less likely you are going to try it. take a deep breath, clear your head and drop in, your mind and body ussually doesnt fail you. unless you are retarded.
