New Gear for Season

I'm not a regular contributor to this forum BUT

Skis - cheap/medium price freestyle skis, you got:   |  LOOK FOR PRESEASON/SUMMER DEALS!!!

Line skis (check out: Afterbang, chronic)

Surface skis (check out: Blanks, No time, Double Time)

Boots - in the freestyle ski industry, you got pretty much Dalbello or Full Tilt. Nordica is good too.

Go to your local shop and get fitted - boots aren't cheap by nature, that might be your biggest expenditure.

Poles- Really not a big deal. my advice is to try no poles, just to see how you like it. But, you can just pick up some small/kids poles and paint them or whatever. Personal Preference.

Bindings - Look into Marker. They have cheaper bindings  (IMO) that hold up pretty well. I run Griffons, and beat them up pretty good, so if you're looking to progress, look into Look or Rossi's binding line.

Outerwear (Optional) - Check out Saga, M.Elihu, Bloom - just ask about more small(ish) companies too. NS will talk their jaw off to you about clothing. I can't even start. Again, personal preference.

Buy boots first, they will probably be the most expensive part of your kit. Get them in a shop and get fitted, it doesn't matter if they are "freestyle" or not, whatever fits is going to be the best regardless of rubber inserts or color.

Skis - get some Faction Candide Thovex 3.0 Skis Price is fair and the skis are good

Plenty of bad boot advice in this thread so just wanted to clear a few things up. These days there really are no bad boot brands. All the top brands, salomon, atomic, head, nordica, dalbello ect have a good range of boots with carrying differnt fits and flexes. The most inportant thing with boots is the fit. People here always talk about last which is forefoot width but that is only one factor and really the part of the boot which is easy to change. Parts that are harder to change are instep height and heel volume. These are areas you want to start with as you can't change it. If you find a boot which is good in the heel and instep but too tight in the forefoot you can just stretch the forefoot.

Another really inportant factor is your not just getting a boot. You will want a boot and a footbed preferably a custom one. All boots apart from pretty much full tilt come with a stock insole. You will not want to ski with these. The fitter should always recommend replacing those with a custom footbed which will properly support your foot. The benefit is it can prevent toe bang, aid with shin bang, make your foot smaller and give more cushioning on impacts. Overall the footbed is one of the most inportant pieces of te boot and you should always try a boot with them.

With regards to how they feel, in the shop they should always feel tight. If they feel comfy straight away chances are they will get to big. Boots generally pack in and get about 1 size bigger. This means you want them tight when new as they will get bigger. Also you can always make a boot bigger but you can't make them smaller. When you stand straight up in a new boot your toes should touch the end an there should be little to no movement. In a tight fit I can usually keep a new boot on for 15 mins before my feet are numb. But once they re fitted and Brocken in they will be perfect.

Finally liners will last about 150 days for a standard liner and about 100 for intuitions so don't expect your boots to last forever they will wear out.

If you are not looking to spend a ton of money, just get some gear from the previous season.

It's been said once already but it so important I will say it again. Get good proper fitting boots with custom footbeds.
This is the most important gear piece in skiing. You will pay more up front but it will save you so much time and money in the long run.
Anyone can ski crappy used skis. It's really difficult to ski in ill fitting ski boots. Even a half size off will make you hate to ski.
Find a boot fitter in the area you live or the mountain you go to, and get good boots. Then worry about all the other stuff. Ski wise you can get something fairly new from Faction skis over there in Italy. You got plenty of time to get gear together before the season hits.
But remember, boots first then everything else.
