Best Advice from your Dad

I loved how my relationship grew with my dad once i went away to school and once starting my career.

What are the best pieces of advice or words of wisdom that your old man has given you?

My dad is a total bro, but i have the upmost respect for him.

"kick her back"

"abc always be closing"

"Your reputation walks into a room 10 minutes before you"

"Get her drunk"    "How much beer do you need"     

"Have a beer and gain your senses"  

Plenty of other sexual innuendos im yet to figure out

I know. I have a ton of respect for my dad. He's a total hardass and gets on me all the time, but I love him. It's kinda sad. He just wants me to find what I'll do forever.

I don't have any good one liners from my dad, but there is no man I respect more.

He is the best example I know of a man who loves his wife and family, runs a successful business, gives generously and is respected by friends, family, colleagues, and others in the community. He is wise with what he has and has shown what it means to be content.

I don't know what kind of man I would be without him.

He'll give you money so you learn from it (like tuition for college)
But if t happens again, it's more like a student loan that you have to pay back with interest.

No matter what you do, make sure you're doing it for the right reasons.

Life is about finding out what you like to do, and setting your priorities straight. Theres no sense in going to university or college if you're not sure what you're going to do with it, do what you want to do now and then you can do the responsible things.

My Dad is a smart and intelligent man, when he talks I listen. Theres no way I would have gotten this far with out his help. Hes not much of a comedian so I don't have any funny quotes.

I'm going to have to remember some of these when my kids go off to college. Thankfully I still have plenty of time.

Once I had the urge to take my dad out for beers after work. I told him it was just going to be one beer, but I ordered a Steinlager bomber and a snifter of Grand Marnier for each of us. It was happy hour and the bar was packed. We were having a good time shooting the shit, and then I noticed that there was a table of girls that were paying a lot of attention to our table. At first I was stoked, but then it hit me that they were totally checking my dad out. Awkward/cool at the same time.

One time my dad and I were disagreeing and I said "jesus christ" under my breath to which he replied "Don't fucking swear at me. Don't wearing at me you fucking bastard." I laughed at his hypocrisy and complete misuse of the term bastard.

My dad has never really given me a single statement that has stuck out. There's a bunch of, wear a condom, dont fuck up, take your hat off, show respect, and i love you statements but not one that really stuck out.

Despite that, he has taught me more than words ever can. He has shown me how to be a man, how to work and how to love.
