Both is cool and skiier who isn't from and doesn't live somewhere with amazing terrain (Utah, Alps, Tahoe) should be able to do both since snowboarding is way easier than skiing if you can't do it at all it means you have only tried once or twice and should have done it a couple more times till it clicked.
I wouldn't waste a day in Tahoe on a snowboard at one of the legit places (Kwood Squaw Alpine Rose.) But if I was gonna ski a shitty mountain for 5-10 days I'd want to board 2-3 of them.
That said I still don't really like snowboarders and find them annoying. (Especially anywhere legit on powder days scraping steep terrain.)
