So I've been doing freestyle for 4 years. Everyone loves to talk about how good they are with these "edits" and things. I''m here to admit, to all of newschoolers that I suckkk. I don't really mind cause I'm still having fun, but its been 4 years and I only do 360s, off of 20 ft jumps max. And rail tricks, forget about it. FS 270 is about as far as I get.

I KNOW I'm not alone. This is safe place to admit your suckage.

This thread is awesome. I also suck balls in the park. But honestly, growing up skiing with my dad and shit I am a pretty decent skier otherwise. I just think it's fun as shit to to try new stuff, and that feeling when you land yer first 3 is pretty cool. Skiing is fun.

I usually try upside downs and whirlybirds but crash 95% of the time.

Also extremely shit doing slideys. However I'm 31 and live in a part of the UK nowhere near anywhere decent to ski so I can use that excuse.

I have serious trouble skiing off jumps switch and it has been almost a decade. I feel being around a good group of friends is what actually helps me not suck.

Progression sucks.
I enjoy skiing, and that's what's important, but its troubling seeing people younger than me spin 7s when I'm having trouble with grab3s.

my rail game is good and thats what ive really beeen workin on. i dont really care much for jumps but i can three small jumps and five dumb little side kickers but thats really it

I've been snowboarding for a while and just this season I have been able to get 3's consistently, rail game is decent. But I got my first backflip yesterday! So that's good haha but I blow at skiing.

If you suck but you're having fun... and you have a positive enough attitude to not care how good you are... then you are winning this sport.

I let myself get way too out of shape to slay the park anymore. Now I'm scared to hit jumps.

Can't do anything more then a 7 off a jump and clean switch ups/ 270 on and outs on rails on good days. I've been skiing park for like six years and know I could be better if I pushed myself more but I have a ton of fun just getting out there.

^I feel this. Can't believe how much jumps have grown compared to when I was first learnin' spins. The biggest features in the early parks would be in the mini-park now. You kids are fucking rippin it!

Doing my 1st foam pit day next week to hit those tricks I never had the balls to try. I suck because I want to nosebutter 3 and hand drag fucking bad and can't quite figure it out.

Skiing awesome, with or without rails...Just gimme some snow dmanit!

me! best shit i've ever done is a couple of nasty 3s, some sketched out 5s & half a backflip. i can barely hit a rail.

I'm still pretty young and progressing. My goal is frontflip by the end of the year. For now I can do rail 3s and 5s (almost 7)

I dont stand a chance against a lot a riders today.
 But, I diversified my skiing to every aspect of the sport. I can as much fun in the park as in the powder as in carving. The process of learning all the aspects is infinitely long and I can change up what I want to practice each day. That tactic may not have made me the best rider, but it makes me the skier that always smiles, no matter the conditions.

What so people like being better at? I want to be competent at both jumps and rails but I think I will have more fun with jumps (albeit getting injured more often too).

you've gotta want to.

i went out to PC this past winter and for 3 days straight i spent more than 70 percent of my time on the mountain hiking to ski fresh lines. granted, they weren't pillow lines in Alaska, i had the time of my life and on various occasions thought "damn this is what it's like to really ski powder"

and in terms of park progression, you've gotta want it. last two years i was satisfied with just sliding rails, 2ing out, and doing shifty's off jumps. got out there this year and learned 3's, learned 2's on, 4's off, switchups, and combos, and it's a hell of a lot of fun.

find some people like you. because when a lot of friends who aren't necessarily great at skiing get together, you'll naturally end up pushing eachother. you'll progress.

I'm good at moguls and steeps and just skiing, but I just started skiing park at the end of last year and can 180 both ways and 3, can slide boxes well but haven't tried rails yet. I hope to improve this year though, but Ohio just decided to give us some snow today, and it's supposed to be in the 40's with rain on monday and tuesday.

Does it matter how good you are? As long as you are out there having fun it shouldn't. I have a sloppy 3 off only small-medium jumps and am still afraid of rails, will hit smaller boxes. I am sure some of it is psychological. I am 26 and afraid of injuring myself and missing work/grad-school.

Been skiing my whole life... started skiing park last month of last season.

Thus far I can only 3 off of smaller jumps, I can slide smaller rails, spin on boxes, and slide some other jibs. Otherwise I can't really do anything and I have terrible body control in the air so I can't really handle that large of jumps.

But I'm a girl, so its okay?

Meh, you can be pretty careful with jumps and have a good time without getting hurt. Just work your way up to the bigger stuff super slowly and don't go bananas with tricks.

Hitting a huge air even if you just do a 3 is a trip and a half.

i've been park skiing since i was in 8th grade..being a junior now i still can't slide rails..like at all. I like jumps though. Gonna see if i can get a sw 5 around this year..

Two years ago I thought I was done progressing. I could 7, I could 3 and 5 big jumps, but I only could front flip, inconsistently 4 out and my rail game was average at best. I thought I sucked and hated my style.

Then last year I progressed far more than I ever expected. Learned corks, flats, backie's, and started cleaning up my style.

This year I am proud of my style, pretty damn clean, and my rail game is popping off.

I guess what Im trying to say is don't think you'll never get better because you can, it just may take a little work.

Next on the list:

Waaaayy more grabs

Cork and regular 9's

4's on (not counting boxes cause that shit is easy)

6's out

Pretzels (still fucking can't get that two out)

and maybe more

You gotta devote just as much time to rails as jumps if you want to be well rounded. I sucked at rails before this season started but since PA had no jumps I've just been doing rails 6+ hours a day and its making a huge difference. My rail game has caught up to my jumps and now I can focus on them 50% each.

Rails are all about practice.There are plenty of people who only ski a few times a year and can still hit jumps decently, but its takes time to get real comfortable at rails, which is why more people are better at jumps than rails. Just something I've noticed, idk.
