Dead heat the moment between center-left and right wing parties. Netanyahu might be done.
'Benjamin Netanyahu’s election campaign failed because he had nothing
much to say. The world-champion orator, king of political survivors,
lost his connection to the public mid-term and has been coasting ever
since, in the absence of a serious challenger. He did not offer any hope
to Israelis, he conducted a pathetic campaign and, instead of issuing a
platform, made do with promising to be a "strong prime minister." '
well, looks like Netanyahu will sneak away with the win. It's too bad more arab israelis didnt vote. We might've seen a center-left government if that had happened. Chalk that up to difficult voting restrictions for East Jerusalem residents or voter apathy, I'm not really sure but I would have really liked to see a centrist government in Israel, and not Netanyahu again. Hadash got four seats which is a pretty good sign, and the Yesh Atid will get at least 18 seats... so there is hope, or at least a good trajectory. happens... all I can say is at least Netanyahu is no pussy, and will keep Israel safe if shit really goes down. but still, things could have turned out a lot differently.
the ultra-orthodox parties have support cause ultra-orthodox jews want to build settlements but don't want to be drafted into the army to defend them (its against their crazy religious beliefs). center-left parties want all israelis to fight in the military, and more voting rights for Arab-Israelis. to me it seems like an unbridgeable gap in their supporters. but hopefully they can, and in the future I think the centrist parties will be far better represented in the Knesset than the right, as they get more and more seats every election.
