Should I go bigger?

I'm looking into some lenses for general cinematography and right now im looking around at 17-50mm lenses. Should I go bigger or is 17-50mm a good range?

So you want to know if you can make a one lens setup around a 17-50?

It make work for you. I don't know what you're into. Versatility only matters if you use it.

Thats the thing I want a decent all around lens to start experimenting more with video. I want to film skiing, but also MTN biking and some short films. I was looking at the tamron 17-50 2.8 lens as well as the sigma 17-50 2.8 both with some form of image stabilization to help with cinematography.

i find the 50mm 1.8 to be a good jumping off point if your stuck. it will be great for short films but a little tougher for the skiing and mtn biking.
but its only around 100 bucks for a brand new lens and its a heck of a lot of fun to mess around with.
