Heel Pain While Skiing?

So this was my first day on my new boots, which I did get after being fitted by a bootfitter, and they felt great in the shop. But when I took them to the hill on the first day of the season, my heel started to hurt after about 2 runs. Is this just a temporary thing, or should I get my liners heat molded to stop this from happening?

Did you not get your liners heat molded by your boot-fitter?

no, he told me that I should go home and do some vacuuming. Weird, but he said it simulates skiing and will help mold without the heat

what? All it simulates is walking, you wouldn't flex your boots at all if you were wearing them hoovering. Getting them moulded with him you can be stationary and actually perform the movements you do when skiing.

that's ridiculous... having them heat molded in a controlled way will help ensure a proper fit is created. Did you get footbeds as well or did your fitter not discuss that with you?

He did not. Are they necessary? But I'll take them in and get them heat molded and mention it

They help support your feet. Imagine the difference in comfort between running with skate shoes, and then running with actual sneakers. Footbeds help lock your foot in the boot, and give way more arch support than just a flat liner bed. Totally worth the $50 it will probably cost you, I'll never go back.

Depends on where the heel pain is. I had some in my Full Tilt First Chairs after a few hours on the first day this season. It was on the side of my heel. I had been fitted, heat molded, and got footbeds. Some things you just wont know until you ski in them. They ground out a bit of the heel pocket on both boots, pain gone. Heel pocket is still locked down. So, just got back to your fitter, talk to them, and spend some time with them. It'll help.

youre heel is not locked in. First try tightening the the middle buckles. if that doest work you need a footbed. they help everything

If your "boot fitter" did not recommend a nice footbed and he didn't heat mold your liners, then he is not a real boot-fitter. A footbed is one of the most important ingredients to making a ski boot work properly. Think of it as the foundation of a house. Without it, the overall structure is out of balance and not aligned properly. That is now your foot inside a boot. Couple that problem with not heat molding your liners and it is easy to see why you are skiing in pain.

As people have said, he probably should have recommended a footbed and proper heat moulding, but I've have issues similar to this with a new pair of boots, and it went away after a couple of days skiing.
