Forsake Shoes on Kickstarter again, get them funded!

These shoes are frickin awesome, and I really hope that this time around these kids get the funding so they can finally launch the buiseness. Here is the thread from the first attempt with lots of info:

They are basically awesome looking, high quality hiking/outdoor shoes that are perfect for skiers


"Forsake was founded by Jake Anderson and Sam Barstow – two college friends and former ski bums with a passion for the outdoors and an undiagnosed addiction to fresh new gear. While working at ski resorts in the Rockies, we needed waterproof footwear that felt equally at home in both casual and rugged environments; shoes that stood up to harsh weather and terrain without sacrificing comfort, performance, or style. The Brown and Green Hiker is really nice looking, I wish they would make a low profile style of the shoe seeing as I never wear anything with a high top outside of actually hiking.

I feel like they should be focusing more on getting endorsements and investments on a bigger scale then kick starter, but dats just mu 2 cents.

Your bank account isn't affected in any way unless the kickstarter passes, in which case the money is automatically deducted at that point

Hey guys thanks for the support!!

If you back the project on kickstarter you have to give your credit card info right away but will only get charged if we are at or above our goal when the project ends.

We're working on some low tops right now too but they unfortunately won't be available until the fall 2013 retail season.

We limited the amount available at discount prices as an early bird special to encourage a strong start. Now that those are sold out an unlimited amount of the shoes are available at the regular price of $95 a pair. There are also combo deals for the shoes and a shirt and/or pop color laces that are unlimited.

You couldn't pay ME to wear those.

Shoes are situational. If I need waterproof footwear it's going to be functional and I don't care what it looks like. If I need something that looks good, well, those aren't it. This is a compromise shoe, and I have no idea if it stacks up in the function department but it doesn't in the looks department.

Anyway I have now stated and defended my opinion so I'll stop being a hater.

for $100k I want vibram and gortex.

Or I could just go buy one of the several hundred options of shoes that already have gortex and vibram soles, and not look like a fucking idiot.

I like where your heads are at.

As someone who wear skate style shoes all the time, it is really frustrating to have them wear out every season or 2 from rain/mud/sole breakdown. Not sure which model appeals to me but I love the idea of a waterproof, durable AT skate style shoe!

I'm not really certain why you would write something so cynical when this company is obviously small and trying to claw it's way into the market. There are several people who said the same type of things about ON3P skis, but they were respectfully quiet about it. Projects from good people such as this should be encouraged, not angrily stomped on by irate young adults who have no intention of even seeing the product in real life.

Goretex and Vibram are great but there are a LOT of products that offer almost identical performance but dont have the hype behind the name.

For a new company I'd cut them a bit of slack...

We designed these shoes with the goal of making them versatile enough to wear every day regardless of the weather and what you're doing in them so that you don't need to buy multiple pairs of shoes. I have a pair of hiking boots, but I only wear them when I'm hiking, when it's raining, or when there's snow on the ground. I don't wear them the rest of the time because I don't like how they look and I know the company that makes them overlooks our demographic because they don't think they can make enough money off of us to make it worth their time. I'm not trying to be all idealistic and say that we're not trying to make money, but I think the newschool outdoor community needs a company to make footwear specifically for us and our lifestyle.

Everyone has their own style and obviously not everyone likes the same shoes. That's why there are so many footwear companies out there that are able to stay in business. But if you like these shoes and the idea behind Forsake, now's your chance to help get us off the ground!

Sure, cut them $30,000 in slack. Drop the investment to $50,000-$70,000 and go from there.

We could have used Gore-Tex but it would have cost $4 more to make each pair. That means we would have had to charge retailers $7 more per pair and they would charge consumers $14 more per pair. We chose to use Aqua-Tek instead because it has the exact same construction as Gore-Tex (a booty membrane inside the shoe with taped seams) and has to pass very similar waterproofing standards.

As for Vibram, they only work with established companies producing over 60,000 pairs of shoes annually. Hopefully we can get there soon! For now, we have adopted proven design features used by Vibram and other outdoor footwear companies. These features are listed under the "Traction and Support" section of the Kickstarter page if anyone's interested.

I'd rather offer a comparable product at a lower price than over charge with a name brand. We're trying to keep these as affordable as possible so our friends can buy them

I have personally been wearing a prototype pair of Forsake Pilots and I love the shit out of them.  The ones I have aren't even waterproof and during Sandy with some serious flooding and helping people out in flood waters my feet were completly dry.  Also I haven't had a pair of shoes that are this comfortable in a long time, if ever. A shoe that I can be outside wear, and then go rage without a new pair of shoes is a win in my book.  For $90, your cheating yourself if you dont get these.

Great idea, but why skate soles? They're impractical for everything except skating, and if I want grip I'll opt for a full-on lug boot.
