quality of armadas

In sweden there is a big discussion about the quality of armadas skis, are they as bad as I´ve heard ?

the original AR5's are dope skis but it's tru they get beat up pretty easily. My tail-plate started ripping off after only 3 days of riding and the edges are pretty cut up too. I talked to Grete on the lift at hood and she said that the all the new ar5s are a lot stronger and the tailplate isnt an issue anymore.

^^oh morry so you can't put bindings on armadas???????? they would make is difficult to ride wouldn't it? maybe i just got really lucky when my ar5's got mounted and didn't break.

NO COMPLAINTS HERE and i rode on last years for a bit so this years I hear are so much beefier!!




Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

This years are totally different. They have these plastic looking sidewalls this year and wierd clear rubber topsheets which seem alot harder to chip. I'll probably be riding mine this weekend so I'll give an update.

Besides the top sheet chipping, these were the most durable skis Ive had in the last 4 years. BY FAR!!! I've broken at least 3 pairs of skis every eyar for the last 4 years and last year I only broke one pair of Armadas and it was in the worst fall of my life in the backcountry.

Elan now manufactures armada skis, ive checked them out, and the quality is immensely better this year then the first couple years when they were pressed up in quebec city...nice solid sidewalls, good topsheet, very PRECISE manfacturing...so id say their quality has jumped, but i havent ridden the new ones so i really am only guessing by how they feel

i do believe it's elan they told me too. concept chinka, it doesn't matter who manufactures them, its how the ski is designed, elan has absolutely no input on manufacture design, Armada decides everything, shape, construction, materials, and elan just presses what Armada sends them, very simple.

i got the 180 ar5s at the very begining of last season, and rode them with p12s for almost 60 days last year, i never had a problem with them, the only real wear was in the underfoot area from riding rails, so thats no big deal, the only thing that i saw was a kid on arvs who did a switch 7 over the 3rd hit at breck, he landed way front seat and his heel pulled out shte ski was fine im prety shure it was the mount i already bought a pair of the thalls,ar5s, and the new arvs for this year and i mounted them, they seem like a much more beefyier and solid ski than last year, but i havent rode them yet. but im shure they will be about the same as last year.

except that the factory in quebec they used for last seasons skis pumped out a LOT of defective ones. now that they've moved production to european factories, the quality is loads better.

im gonna go ahead and agree with matt on that one, they have some defects in cores, thats why a ski might have cracked when they were driling it, if they hit a knot it expanded. as for cores i think that all of the ones that line is using this year are realy good, cuz they are consistant, and if there is a little flaw the carbon fiber stringers will more than make up for it. and hey elan makes our blizzard rental fleet as well, they arent bad but as you say they are built to spec.

i ride my armadas hard as shit (the first ar5 model) and the only thing that has happened to them is the top sheet chips, but other than that they have held up so far and they are the best skis i have ever ridin

im never riding on dynastar again... my edge ripped out and the tip broke in half and i got some major bubbles in the base

well my friend bought 03-04 ar5s an they just got destroyed the edges cracked then ripped out the one of the skis snapped at the tail...

^^ yeah but he proaly sent them back to armada, and what did they do? they sent him a new pair, they are tight about replacement on those things, especaly if they have a defect.

free ski...holy shit you bought 3 paris of armadas!! thats like a fuckload of money and the thalls and ar5's are like the fucking same thing but t halls suck outside the park because of the curved bases or so i hear. are you like paris hilton? that has to be like 1500 bucks on skis. my whole set up with boots and bindings is like 550. and im not poor my house is fucking huge and i have expensive cars and a pinball machine but i mean unless your pro...

i work at a shop, i got them for free from their rep, they were unclaimed skis, he gave them to me for doing some shop work for him, im actualy prety poor i just got lucky i guess?
