"Kaya Turski: Backflipping - Kind of a Big Deal"

What would you do for this set up? Two identical jumps, one to airbag, one to perfect landing + coaches for learning new tricks. That's pretty sick. Royalty treatment right there; I'm pretty jealous.

Some people, a hell of a lot f girls just literally don't have the balls to do it. It's all about commuting and knowing you can do it, so if you don't have that commitment then obviously your gonna be scared to do it unless in like a perfect controlled set up. If red bull will do that for her, I think it's awesome

5 consecutive X-Games Gold medals isn't much of a joke. Kaya holds it down far and away more than any other girl in the industry. Kaya and Angel Collinson are in leagues of their own, and there is little argument otherwise.

And that's rad. But that fact that she has those medals, and JUST learned to backflip, speaks volumes about women's park/pipe skiing. It's hilarious to me. High-larious.

impressive sw 7s were super hefty though i was def diggin that.

I learned how to do switch 9's like 6 years before I even tried a backflip.

Also, I have a friend who used to be really good at park. flippy spinny's before twintips even existed. talking switch cork 10's and shit back in the late 90's, and he couldn't backflip.

Just saying.

beyond that narrow minded statement, you are insulting yourself- well done. Seeing Kaya's final run in Aspen this year in person was the most impressed I've been watching a female skier or any woman in action sports for that matter. Some people have issues with that rotation, but arguing that her just learning backflips somehow "speaks volumes about women's park/pipe skiing" is a bit overdramatic and untrue..... sw10 stomped- last hit last run, for the win- that "speaks volumes about women's park/pipe skiing."

holy shit really?

i thought women's pro skiing was well past this.

They throw fucking 900s!! I could do backs, fronts, and lincolns, before i could spin more than 540.

HUGE Props to Kaya though for learning her first inverts on a 25 foot table. I was a total pussy and tried my first back flip on a small, lippy backcountry jump into soft pow.

it's strange to think that 16 year old kids are stomping double corks while sponsored women are learning to flip.

Eh, I knew one of the superunknown finalists (obviously, male) from the first couple years of the contest who couldn't backflip. It's possible to be an great skier and never learn to backflip.

No one talked about the sw cork 7 and the misty 5s critical? I mean, it's ok to be shocked that she could sw 10 before she could backflip. But in the end, she ended up going over the mental barrier she seemed to have with backflips and learned two new tricks. It's not a waste of time considering learning to switch corks is kind of a big deal for women skiing. Stoked to see Kaya pushing it for the ladies. Oh and she's hot.

Mike, if anything speaks volumes, it is your quick and adamant defense of her. You see her as the queen of slope, but more importantly you saw that that video is a poor representation of her. A high percentage of viewership of that video isn't the NS community. It is the average Joe or probably Joelle in this case. Anyone watching that video sees that a five time xgames slopestyle winner just learned a backflip. It makes her and the girls look like an unworthy joke when compared to Bobby Brown's triple 14 which is most likely a click away on whatever page that was originally posted on. I said it before and I'll say it again, Red Bull dropped the ball by releasing that video.

how many people in this thread have 5 X games golds?

I just think its amasing that someone with her rep in womens park skiing couldn't backflip before this, i mean i can't backflip, my 3s are sketchy as shit and i have landed 1 front flip ever, but you know, im not exactly a 5 times x games gold medalist

yeah i mean, i do understand that certain sets and tricks just feel more and less natural to different people, i have a couple weird ones. but sw cork 10 is like.. one of the most technical park tricks out there, i can't believe your friend could do that and not backflip! that's wild

yeah. In all of me knowing him, I only saw him try and throw a backflip once. It was out of anger and he just hucked it, completely over rotating, landing on his upper back. We made fun of him all the time.

He also managed to win a skiercross competition while completely eating shit on the landing of the last jump, sliding across the finish line in a yard sale. He got a concussion and was found in the day lodge during the awards without any memory of being in the skiercross (still wearing the bib and all). He was special, that's for sure.

I thought that too until this, which is a complete disgrace. 12 year old kids learn backflips on snow like the rest of us. It's fine she couldn't do backflips, some people are worse than average at them. But to make this edit making a huge deal of it is absurd. Waiting for a good sunny day? :/

Haha, totally agree. Quite a discrepancy here. I guess the real question here is wether or not Felix Baumgartner can do a back flip. I feel like it should be a requirement for a Red Bull athlete.

Tatum's double backie is pretty sick. Though if I had to choose between the two, huge balls is not a quality I look for in women. I vote Kaya.
