This was on Panasonic US's youtube channel, probably wont last long though, so this embed is from 43rumor's. Looks like Phillip Bloom got to shoot a test body, so I'm sure he'll have a good filmmaker's take on it as soon as the official announcement comes the 17th Sept.

Thoughts?

Dont know about stept. Im pretty sure they are HEAVILY invested into canon at the moment.

But for a couple hundred bucks you can buy electronic adapters. That the GH3 is going to be a MUCH better camera than a 7D is quite evident. Buy a couple electronic adapters and you're set. Much cheaper than investing in new glass etc.

Possible dumb question, but going to ask anyway:

How long do you think it'll take for firmware hacks to come out for the GH3? Are current hacks usable on the GH3?

Again, if dumb question, my apologies. Just curious.

Here's what I wonder - since i don't know anything about hacks and how they work besides what i temporarily learned when I installed mine...

does anyone think that with the higher bit rate that's native in the camera they might have made it harder to develop and install hacks so that people aren't doing it?

A while back the developers at Panasonic publicly stated that they were impressed with the GH2 hacks and were going to incorporate those ideas into the GH3. So we know they aren't opposed to it.

Just looked on BH and it says in the specs
'1080/60p 50Mbps IPB and 24p 72Mbps ALL-I'
So is 72 mbps restricted to 24p? Looks like it.

I don't think restricted is the right word to use. Even using a decent compression scheme, 1080p60 is a LOT of information to record/compress/write (it's 2x the frames of 30p). As for 24p/30p, you can give it a bit more room to play with as it's not tonnes and tonnes of info like it would be in 60p

You also have to remember that the 24p setting is intra, which needs more information, because it essentially takes a full picture for each frame, where as IPB takes a picture and then, depending on the GOP, has a number of frames where only the differences are recorded, therefore resulting in less information. I hope the gh3 can be hack to handle 1080/60p intra, but I know the gh2 struggles with 720/60p intra

I agree with this somewhat. Although the 2x crop would throw them off a bit i think. Stepts beloved Tokina would turn from a 17-25 to 22-34. Who knows.

I dont know why but if I had the money I would rather buy a fs100 than a fs700, I really dont need 300fps at all.. 60fps in 1080 is actually sick as fuck..

yeah but the handle is quite nice for run and gun, and the ND filters are a very, very nice feature to have built in.

But is it really worth the extra 3800$?? for that money you can get pretty solid rig I would say, with a matte box/variable ND's, monitor and so much more,,,

The one thing that I could buy this camera for (If I had the money) is the 4k ready, If it can do 300fps in 1k then it pretty easily should beat the scarlet in some categories (higher frame rates in 2k and 4k)

not those features alone, but combined with the other additional features i would say it's probably worth the extra cash imo.

Not gonna argue, if I had the budget for a fs700 I would obviously choose it, but I think ive still spent less than an fs700 body on my entire setup, which is very functional and does exactly what I need, thats all I was really saying.
