Ease into it. If you rush too many mile too soon, you'll get hurt and running will be miserable. Also make sure you get your shoes fitted at a running store, not a big chain like Dick's or Sports Authority. Properly fitting shoes will help prevent injury

true, but it feels 30 degrees cooler in the morning and I'm a girl so it's a tad sketch (@least the route I normally run). Although it's really difficult to get my lazy ass out of bed, it's actually the best way I can think of to start the day :)

How did you make it states with a 17:34? I ran a 17:24 at sectionals and i was like 30th. winning time in my race was like a 15:30. where and what section are you in? im in class b section 2. we run at spa park in saratoga for sectionals.

I'm in section 7 with Ticonderoga, Lake Placid, Peru, Plattsburgh. All the Northern teams. I'm also class D and there's only 2 other class D schools in my section. So Seaton beat us, but then 5 more people can go to states besides Seaton's top kids and I was 7th in my class/section. I did the Burnt Hills Invitational this year, I'm assuming you did too if you run in Satatoga, and there's a lot better kids down there than my section.

I ran the 300m and110m hurdles. Probably would have placed top 5 in the state but I pulled my hamstring in like the last 2 months of the season and I was working part time so my coaches kicked me off for working too much. Shitty season to say the least

i ran 40.9 in my first meet. So with more practice I would have easily dropped down into the 38s. state was won with like a low 38 this year. not as fast as last years times

I also didn't run in high school but have recently been trying to start. so far I just run between 2/3 miles a day. any runners have advice? should I work on my time or go for further distances?

well depends what you're trying to accomplish.

if you just want to get faster than do speed workouts 2 or 3 times a week then fill in the rest of the days with long medium pace runs.

yeah build up slowly to avoid injury no matter what, but a set of some faster 400s and 200s once or twice a week will help you gain some speed. otherwise if your going for distance just build up slowly making sure you dont get injured

go outside and just start running. I usually drive my route before and put down some water on the way hidden or a nutrigrain bar or something. Just start out with like a 4 mile run and work your way up youll be surprised how fast your stamina increases. A lot of it is just will power. Plus running outside in a loop forces you to finish your run and not puss out becuase you have no choice but to get back to the car. Also get a good pair of running shoes really im portant

Never ran in HS or college, but ran my first 5k a few weeks ago at 26:32. I was stoked even though that's not very fast. My goal is a half marathon at somepoint in the future. I know I've got a long way to go though...

when i was in 8th grade i was at a meet with only ten other people in my heat, cus none of my team showed up(because the team we were against was really good) anyways i finished way lats at a 19:54 5k pace and their team all stood around the finish line and laughed/clapped. 19:54 is a good pace, i mean im running like 18:45 five years later. well i know what its like to finish dead last.

just keep going man. People get it in their head that you have to be fast to be a good runner but you don't. Just have endurance. When you endure, the speed will come naturely.

College XC is nothing like HS cross. My times didnt convert at all and was really struggling the whole season to get acclimated to the longer distance but couldnt really seem to get it quite yet, my team did decently this season we won LEC's (little east conference) and had a decent showing at regionals but not our best. Im hoping to get back in shape and healthy for indoor where I can hopefully run fast enough to be the 4 leg on the DMR or make the 4x4

our coach had us run as many miles as we could the first day of practice. sounds ruff but once you get into you push yourself father than you think. the more you realize you can push yourbody the better runner you will be.

Signed up for and ran a marathon on a whim. I'm not a runner, and I didn't train at all. Made it in sub-4. Very proud of that achievement. Not an amazing time, but certainly pretty good for no prior running and no training. Was a great experience, but not one I'm rushing to repeat.
