i am not saying that its not like that here, but its certainly reduced. i just think its horseshit that someone with a better background is considered more qualified just because their parents donated enough money to pull them through a high quality school.
like when you have a job interview and some dumbass rolls around with five private schools all over the world in his CV but cannot tell a cow from a horse, yeah thats whats bothering me.
private school doesnt mean higher education, yet most people think of it like that.
and to correct my point: america is obviously in the media and in the focus of the world in this matter. so i think, especially given the numerous american users (i use america wrongfully as a synonym for USA, sorry bro), that it was not wrong to mention that the american education system is a prime example for the consequences of selling education like potatoes, bank accounts or cars.
a negative example of the consequences is given in this thread.
Oh I'm all for people enforcing their rights in a situation in which they actually have rights. Specifically when dealing with police or .gov agencies. Got to admit he sacrificed a lot to stand up for the rights he was misinformed about.
henry is right. i go to school with this kid and henry too and the dean is rediculous. our class has had something like 30 suspensions and 10 expulsions. while i understand that you sign away a certain amount of rights, some of the things that the administration does is rediculous
he did have rights. he was parked OFF CAMPUS, and thus the school has no right to search his car. its his private property that was not on the school.
think about it, how is it different than if his parents had dropped him off. he doesnt have a car at school, the school shouldnt be able to search his private property off school. how would that be different than, say, the school trying to search his bedroom at his house. its still private property off of school grounds
Welllll still not a violation of his rights because the Dean is just another citizen he's not a cop or a federal agent or a soldier so if the Dean searched his truck what of it? If I showed up at your house and searched it without asking you would either stop me or call the cops, I would never be charged with illegal search and seizure it would be trespassing. So if he's so informed why didn't they call the cops and report trespassing... Because they are high school age bitches that knew they were in the wrong and couldn't control the situation and had nothing to be justifiably upset about besides their own retardation for fucking up such a dope opportunity
As ive said many times (or tried to say, i may have not made it clear) I understand that its a private school. I am not saying that the kid should not have gotten kicked out. The school was right to want him out.
What i find to be a problem was the fact that this kid got detained for 5 hours, wasn't allowed to call his parents, and they tried to search his car which wasn't even parked on school property.
This guy was not paying full tuition (to my knowledge) and his parents do not donate to the school. He even pays for his own car lease. Hes not some rich spoiled brat.
come on guys we all do bad things, and to be caught and treated like that is not appropriate. our school should be adhering to values like fairness and justice that it preaches. not detaining kids and subjecting them to heavy handed interrogations.
i am friends with the guy so my opinion is biased, but i genuinely think several injustices were committed on the schools part.
now that ^a may be the case and i'm not bashing the kid, but it seems like he knew he'd piss hot and decided to go down as a martyr. seems pretty vindictive on the dean's part though, not being able to really prove anything and kicking him out for something that many would deem 'petty'
Well considering the dean kicked him out for failure to comply after warning him of the consequences your argument is invalid. He wasn't kicked out for weed. Thus nothing needed to be proved. The kid kicked himself out
regardless of how much henry is exaggerating, he should have still been able to call his parents. i got in big trouble with this dean two years ago, and my parents were notified within 30 minutes. his parents are paying his tuition, and he is a minor (at least to my knowledge), so his parents should at least be informed of what is happening, regardless of whether he can talk to them
Examples of the deans "heavy handed interrogation" include threatening students with their scholarship money to rat out their friends. After a school trip to Mexico upwards of 20 kids were suspended for drinking, some of which did not actually drink. Everyone that knows this man can attest to the fact that his methods are very forceful and unfair. He goes against many of the schools own teachings. and being kept in a room, without being allowed to call your parents sounds like detainment to me.
I'm not saying he was wrong to want the kid out, but the way he went about it was just not appropriate.
no. people thought he was the person that ratted some people out and withdrew. or thats what i heard atleast.
regardless, i cant be mad because i did and i shouldve gotten expelled because i was still on probation from homecoming when that happened. so i cant really speak bad about that situation
Well no offense but your probably to young to understand and it sounds like your judgment is clouded by your lifestyle and choice of friends. I would suggest you keep the opinions about all this to yourself at school because you are completely wrong and will ruin your reputation with the faculty questioning their methods and not even understanding what your talking about.
are you fucking kidding me? wow, you are insanely stupid. wahhh poor fellas, they took a SCHOOL TRIP TO MEXICO. they DRANK AND GOT SUSPENDED.
this has got to be a joke... again if you DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T GO. i haven't seen such a pathetic case of kids complaining about how privileged they are. oh and if his parents are dropping college tuition amounts for him to go to HIGH SCHOOL, they're very well off. face it, you and your buddy are sheltered bitches.
Didnt read any of the comments, but it seems like he did exactly what erowid or some other pro-drug site would tell you do to. Refuse the search, state your rights yada yada, and that should work in theory. But when it comes down to it the schools gonna do what the fuck it wants, esp if its a "Prep" school
i know this is for henry but,
first off, we have three months left. i dont really give a fuck about my reputation with the faculty as long as i dont get fucked because of it.
second, i dont smoke and rarely drink, so my "judgement is not clouded by my lifestyle".i do agree with henry in that it was completely unethical to do what they did. while the video is a bit much (ill try to get the school's official response to it soon), the school overreacted and shouldnt have done what it did.
You can say whatever you want but the school is in the right and you've yet to say one thing they have done that 90% of private schools don't do every year this argument happens every year with one student or another at private high school it seems to always come up after people get in trouble if you were really concerned about anything besides your friend getting kicked out you would have up and left and stopped giving them money months ago... Oh wait. Not your call and no one cares what you think because your a minor. I bet your parents would agree with me
his parents do not pay college tuition amounts... this kids is not rich. I'm pretty sure not one 'rich' kid has gotten expelled or been subjected to this kind of treatment (how bad actually was is irrelevant).
but honestly i agree with some of what you say. No one is forced to go to private school but I didn't really interpret that to be the point of the video.
On a different note,
He posted this on facebook and it was featured on reddit and its weird how it got such different reactions. like what nsg said makes a lot of sense but facebook and even reddit were super supportive of him. But hey, its good to get the whole spectrum, although im going to hold onto my biased opinion
Guess what, the honesty is coming from the critics not the supporters... And if you admit you don't have to be there, they lay out all the rules upfront, you admit he gave up his rights yet you insist there's injustice somewhere in this story. Just grow up
the injustice is in the behavior of the dean. I have tried as hard as i can to explain it but its not really something you can just convince someone of.
look at the youtube comments or reddit posts. there are people that know this man and agree that he is in the wrong.
Nope. No injustice at all. I have likewise tried to make you see the light I don't need the opinion of "redit or YouTube" to confirm what I already know and the last person I would trusts opinion on the matter would be other kids who break similar rules and were friends with the kid your opinion is clouded
not rich and yet he has a macbook pro and goes to a private school and has a prius that even though he says he pays for, he is most definitely receiving help from his parents.
by the way you want some REAL legal knowledge?
during school hours the SCHOOL IS LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STUDENTS. that means that they are the legal guardian of that kid and that's regardless if he is on school grounds or not. also he had rolling papers which is ILLEGAL for him to have because he is under 18, regardless if it's for tobacco, which is also illegal for him to have or use.
its also pretty convienant that he failed to explain why ALCOHOL was included in the letter as found in his car... the only reason anyone would back this kid up is because they are equally dumb... which is very possible because reddit is for internet retards.
I completly agree with this guy. So what if he's in private school, they denied him phone calls and were going to force there way into the car. But should have given up the pride to stay in school. Definitly not worth not being able to graduate
yes. I get its a private school but if he did blaze at home that's his own time. in his private home. I don't know how things work in the united states. Personally though I know how long pot stays in your system so if they had given him a drug test whether he just blazed or blazed two weeks ago it would still show up in his system. to me I think that testing for drugs is a flawed system. and some places I've gone to they don't even test for pot anymore... just cause if you blaze at home its your business. just if you come to work high they will know by the way you're acting and will be fired. this whole war on drugs is retarded in my opinion. Don't mean to sound like a dick or push my ideals, just stating what I believe.
Well it has nothing to do with the war on drugs or when he decided to blaze, literally irrelevant. It's a private school it's unbecoming of a member of the community to "blaze" while enrolled. And I bet in your country wtvr it is they can kick you out of private school for just about any reason
He violated what was clearly stated in the handbook. No one really knows how the Dean really acted but he is in charge of the school and technically is able to act in "loco parentis" (also stated in EVERY handbook). Kid seems like a tool and it's his own fault. If he didn't have anything to worry about he would have taken the drug test. I don't feel bad for him at all.
That video was fucking hilarious. "Rolling papers...for...rolling tobacco. Yet when they searched my car, they found a pack of cigarettes, and no tobacco." Another gem..."Did I take the UA? NO, because I did nothing wrong." If he had done nothing wrong, a UA would have easily proven that. He didn't take the UA because he knew he would have failed and been kicked out regardless. Kid fucked up, and is now paying the consequences. Shit happens.
the responses to this video are funnier than the video itself. I feel for this kid, even though he obviously got caught up in a pretty shitty situation, he's obviously a stoner, he obviously would have tested positive, and the whole method in which he went about making this video is completely stupid.Let's face it, a lot of us, including myself are high schoolers, I would behave in the same way this kid did. it is pretty hard to fess up to something like drug possession especially when it would get you expelled, it would be even harder to fail a drug test, dissapoint your family and reveal the truth behind the lies you had already told your school. Private schools are ridiculous, and I can't honestly say that my actions would be much different from this level 30 washintonian hipster glasses equiped prius pilot. my 2 cents.
Hahaha glad I'm not the only one who caught that. I might have to start using that. Usually I just give all Prius drivers a nod and a fuck you as I drive past them in my 14mpg SUV.
